Tank Track rubber

Hi All,
I have just purchased my first RC Tank, the Heng Long Bulldog. I am going to be detailing the tank to make it look as realistic as possible, and while I wait I am building a list of things that need doing, and items I require.
One thing I noted from watching videos is how little grip the tracks actually have, mainly because the weight is just not there like on the real thing. Also, it should have rubber pads I believe to aide in traction, which the model tracks do not have.
Looking for a solution I came across this stuff :

Its used on tool handles etc. I am going to get some and attempt to paint it onto the individual rubber pads. The stuff is quite grippy (I think my Dad had some of this stuff for his tool handles.
