Hallo, Why my interest in all things Armour? Stepping out of a Handley Page Hastings ( ask your grandfather) over Salisbury Plain seeing the Royal Tank Regiments Centurians rolling underneath as we floated down, we did not know what budget cuts were in those days, which is why there were so many. A sight that left an eighteen year old in awe, and it lasts to this day although my interest is more specific, The Panzer MK 1V, nothing against Tigers and Panthers but if the German armed forces and its Armaments industry had built and used only these and their varients a lot more tanks could have been built and the European land war would have been a very close run thing, I shall now hide behind the settee awaiting the back lash, seriously I am here to learn and share the company of like minded people.

Shaun.

Hi there

Welcome to the Pleasuredome my friend >:<

Regarding your points on the Tiger/Panther vs Pz IV debate, whilst I am the proud owner of a Mark-1-Tank Late Model 1/8 Tiger 1 ("Sadie"), and would choose the Tiger as my "what would you have gone to war in tank", from a purely survivalist point of view  , one has to be pragmatic and concede that had the Germans concentrated on the Pz IV Model J with L/48 75 mm gun as their main battle tank, and the jagdpanzer IV with L/70 75 mm gun to deal with the heavier Russian stuff, then things may well have been very different...especially had old Adolf listened to old Galand and allowed full production of the ME262 as a fighter from mid 1943 onwards (top cover sorted !!! ), and channeled all the resources that were wasted on the V1 and V2 programmes into bagging out those jets instead...

But as they say, "if" never won the battle ;)
