Hi all,

I'm planning to buy a Impact gearbox with motors for my upcoming Tamiya Tiger I build, But I'm not sure which pinion to use: 8t, 11t or 12t. Which one would you recommend??

Cheers, John.

Are you getting them with the drop down gear?

As far as I could see, they are standard with the DDG, or am I mistaken??

Are you absolutely sure about this statement considering just choosing a different pinion gear alone?

I always thought, with keeping the spur gears the same, that changing to a ...
smaller pinion = more torque
bigger pinion = less torque

So a bigger pinion gear, leaving the spur gears the same, should allow a faster top speed, but suffer on its low-end torque, while a smaller pinion should provide better low-end torque, but suffer on its top end speed. So the 12T would provide the least torque but the most top speed among those 3 choices.

Am I the one getting that backwards?

watch the video on the mitosal the last run of the tank had a impact tu3 with drop down gear and hop up gear set 2 so i thought the 12 t was the last gear to be used

No offense, but smaller pinion is more torque...larger more speed.
Check the gear ratio chart at Mitosal and you'll see the same gear set up with the 12 tooth pinion results in a lower ratio--faster.
The video didn't mention a change in pinion gears, just hop ups with standard Tamiya motors and 10 tooth pinion.

You can order them with or without the DDG, ratios are:
With DDG -- Gear Ratio 105.469
Without DDG -- Gear Ratio 59.765

Set is in, complete with DDG, 11t pinions and upgraded 480 motors, I guess I'm a sucker for AM.....Just to see the gears, torsion bars, photo etch.....life CAN be good!!

Thanks again for all the replies guys, was very usefull. John.
