I was recently asked a question and I would like to have feedback before I respond to the questioner? I can only say what I want to see, which is only one small voice.
1. Kit you put together or Ready to Run?
2. Upgrades, I can buy to make different variants or I will scratch my own parts
3. electronics - I want the package or No I will buy my own set up
4. metal or plastic
5. tracks? important to be metal or is plastic

1. KIT - Put together - For the enjoyment plus you'll see with the next answer;

2. UPGRADES - Both - I like options and enjoy doing both;

3. Electronics - Package - Cause I'm a Waterhead when it comes to that stuff (you still going to help me out with the Tiger?);

4. MATERIAL - Both - Both types have the pros and cons. I like working with both, and

5. TRACKS - Metal - Realism

1. Kit - Both (kits tend to be expensive but are way more fun!)
2. Upgrades - different variants and some scratch my own, so BOTH
3. Electronics - BOTH
4. Metal or Plastic - I love metal, so metal, but hull's can be like asiatam "metal" hulls. Upper hull? (body, turret etc) should be plastic to be able to modify it without too much trouble
5. Tracks - Metal!

Below are more answers, but I think the answers your going to get from different members are going to be very wide spread as we all have are own references. Some like to just run a tank in back garden, others go to finite degree in reproducing an historical correct tank, and some will go for IR battles so all will give very different answers.

2. Upgrades, I can buy to make different variants or I will scratch my own parts Yes upgrades great for making different tanks to the standard available ones.
3. electronics - I want the package or No I will buy my own set up Depends if it came with Tamiya, SLU I be happy, otherwise I prefer to sort my own electronics
4. metal or plastic After converting two tanks to metal parts now weighing 6.5kg each, I find the lighter weight plastic tanks to be more fun to use
5. tracks? important to be metal or is plastic Having both I prefer plastic

Something i should do in my life is most important, it will make my life meaningful...

1: For me, kit.
2: I like upgrades available
3: Package for me, not comfortable tackling el mod yet.
4: For me has to be metal, Tamiya metal tanks please.
5: Metal tracks all the way, i like to use my tank outdoors and plastic tracks do not cut it.

here is my opinion to this theme

1.) A kit is for me the finest thing, but when a model is only available as RTR and I will it necessarily have, then I will surely buy and rebuild it
2.) For me both - spare parts from aftermarket and when ever it's possible for me, scratchbuild
3.) I love ElMod and at the moment I think about it, whether I replace in my Panther G the Tamitronic with ElMod
4.) Parts with high mechanical stress - clearly metal, everything else can be made ??of plastic
5.) Tracks? also clearly metal tracks, because I use my tanks almost entirely outdoor

Kits Option 1
They are great fun to build easy to follow instructions and the electronics are of good quality sound with no need to change anything. There are a few details missing off the upper and lower hulls but there are after market options you can acquire to add the detail to the tank.
If you are new to cutting and shutting and modifying your tanks then your bottom lip might drop at the thought of hacking into an expensive toy! and lets be realistic here they are not cheap for what they are.
The tracks that come with the tank standard are metal with plastic inserts more than adequate for any type of environment and if you wish to use metal tracks you will need to stiffen and support the hull and gearboxes to accommodate them and again there are options available.
Note they do not come with controllers or receivers small obstacle to overcome

RTR Option 2
Out of the box they have a few parts and components you can put on them, the electronics are very basic and can be prone to dry joint disease but 90% are fine and you won't have an issue except they all sound the same! there is a massive after market world out there for adding extra detail and upgrades available and if you want to start to cut and tuck opening hatches and modifying a tank start here! if you bugger it up slip with a knife or melt something the cost of replacement is far less than a kit.
Note by the time you have spent $$$ upgrading gearboxes, electronics, tracks, wheels etc it can end up costing the same if not more than a kit even if you buy it with metal upgrades and all you up grade is electronics i.e. ElMod

This is just my opinion and I have both options

RTR, but it must be accurate in scale and outline, after that the simpler the better, it leaves me free to modify as I wish. I used to favour kits, but with the advent of websites like this and rc universe where so many willing, helpful and downright nice people will come to your aid rtr is the way to go.
