An interesting recent development by the Russians is the deployment of the T-90M tanks in Ukraine. The T-90M is the latest version of the T-90 with a completely new turret, remote control weapon station behind commander, latest Relikt armor, new engine, new main gun and fire control system. It entered service in 2020 and should not be confused with the T-90MS, which is a modernized T-90S mainly for export. These T-90M tanks are few in numbers and were obviously kept in reserve until now to face NATO. Their deployment to Ukraine show the Russian willingness to achieve a breakthrough at any cost. The T-14 Armata is not yet ready for combat and unlikely to be deployed.

Shown here is a T-90M destroyed by the Ukrainians on the eastern front. Its unclear at this time what weapon destroyed it.

At least it managed to keep its turret instead of participating in the Jack-in-the-box turret throw distance contest underway in Ukraine.

Amazing Russian T-72B3 turret throw captured by Chinese TV. Turret throw is a feature that would be interesting to reproduce on a RC T-72.

The sand box armour really perplexes me, I mean an anti-tank missile travelling at many ks per hour wouldn't even notice the sand or the wood. Maybe they had some pet cats and needed a kitty litter box to take with them? Now a couple of stout wooden logs might make a difference and surely they have seen enough pics of shermans withe log armour from WW2, or maybe they haven't had time to do the internet research, who knows?
