OOH! A hamster and cats: rather a dangerous combination, no? Long after I was thousands of miles away from my parents' home, I heard stories my father's kindness for his granddaughter (my niece) and her hamster. I wish I could have seen those days.

Luckily for him, they live in different houses, even in different neighborhoods!
This guy has so much energy that one can only envy him.
I installed silent bearings in his running wheel (yes, it's expensive, but sleep is more expensive)
Only the rumble of his paws cannot be muffled.
Removing claws or putting slippers on him is a bad idea, he does not agree with it!

So, new home, new pet, or rather old pet forced on us lol. Another one of my daughters good ideas that I end up looking after.... Cat, dog. Now snake.

Meet Noodle. Short for Danger Noodle. A Royal Python about 1.35 + meters long.
Translated to American, a Ball Python about four and a half + feet long.

Yeah, as an Aussie, I have mixed feelings about snakes. I hated the bastards for many decades, as my parents had rural homes. I’ve had several close encounters with red-bellies, Eastern browns, and Tigers. Behind my house there is a waterway that is home to red-bellies and we sometimes get old-growth skins left in our garden. Red-belly bites are very rarely fatal when medical help is administered in a timely fashion.

This feisty juvenile brown is half the size of a fully grown adult -

My work used to entail crawling into roof cavities and floor spaces, so they organised snake-awareness training so we could approach unexpected encounters with calm. During that we handled a Diamond python, and got up close to a red-belly in a plastic box, so I am less inclined to reach for the long-handled shovel nowadays.

Bixie would be not to keen on encounters where he worked, as outback Queensland has some potent buggers.

Ha ! Ole Bixie had been witnessed running flat out screeming like a 4 year old girl with a skinned knee.................off the rig site, into the nearest open space.
Kill ém, kill em all.

Herman!
I hear and understand, Sir. The Proliferation of Western Diamondbacks here in the Mountain West when Spring comes around is one of the reasons that I am Heeled whenever I go out into the back 40 to walk the fence line, etc. Stay Safe!
