Mr. Bix - Thanks for the kind words. But I have not watched an NFL football game since Mr. Kaepernick refused to stand for the national anthem a year or so ago. I applaud his use of the Constitution's right to free speech but deplore his means of using it. The red on my flag is there because of my Brothers, and my, blood that was shed to keep it flying.

Yep the wash worked out quite well and once I figured out the means to get the decals settled in it came out rather nice. I did talk to Peddinghaus about the decals and he is now going to produce a 3-part series on how to apply them 1 will be basic flat surface application, 2 will be on rounded or curved shapes, and 3 will be specifically on Zimmerit. So that should assist all of us.

Well it is nearly done. I have a few minor things to do, put some logs on it, maybe a camo net over the barrel and part of the sides, and I ordered some upgraded electronics from RC. It seemed to warrant the upgrades as I will be able to add a tail light, brake light, change the track recoil, and a bunch of other things. I ran it around the shop after I finished buttoning it up and am very pleased with how it drives and works. Anyway - here's the pics as of today -

Thanks Carl - the only thing I am not happy with is the decals. I am going to have Kris paint the next ones on. Even with 2 coats of the dull Cote they didn't settle in like I think they should have. But it is what it is now!

I noticed that with the decals. One thing I've done is when they have to settle in on zimmerit, I spray dullcoat and use a soft wide brush to push them in while the dullcoat is wet. The other thing I've done with success is painted them on with a paint pen. I use acrylic paint paints and if I make a mistake I simply wipe them off. The star is a stencil I made with one of my daughters toys and then I did the numbers and border free hand with the pen

These are two that I completed with decals. Both sets were very thin, and I set them with the brush.

The second one is more like your surface texture with the high cast rough zimmerit.

I am going to attempt to remove the decals. They look like decals and it's bugging me. The dull cote is going to be a problem but if I have to I will use a thinner to get it off then the decals by razor knife a piece at a time. And the paint you used to put your stuff on is what my wife suggested I use.
The micro sol/set is also supposed to soften the decals to remove them. No large. This is my first tank and it's been a learning curve that will make the next 3 I have in line a whole lot easier!

Have you thought about stencils? I did these numbers with stencils and an airbrush, and while they're a bit more difficult on zim, if you use a light touch and a couple light coats you can get a good effect.



I've even got video of the process if you want to try stencils. You can get them on ebay for about 10 or 15 bucks.

Hi Max - I didn't think about stencils. I went ahead and peeled the decals off and my wife is going to paint the numbers and cross on the tank. I am going to watch her and will attempt the process myself on the next project. And painting them is a no charge deal as we have a whole room dedicated to painting.
