The Puma is going to be my next RC project. What are you guys doing for control/sound units?

I shall be using the dedicated Elmod board.

Richard, what did you end up doing for the barrel ? Did you use the Pz III one and put the muzzle brake from the kit on it ? Does it even fit ?

Hi Richard

Before the pin wash did you coat the Puma in a satin or gloss varnish? this really helps with the capillary action. Also protects your previous work plus makes it a lot easier to clean up unwanted wash.

No I didn't. I had not realised it was necessary. I said I was new to this. That raises an interesting question. I remember reading somewhere that acrylic and enamel paint can react with each other if applied in the wrong order. As I have an enamel wash over acrylic paint, do you use enamel or acrylic varnish?

It's too late for this time, but at least I shall know better next time.

A liberal coat of acrylic varnish is fine. Just don't use an acrylic thinner to take the enamael wash off, your end up taking the varnish too. For future washes you could try making them with oils, gives a much longer drying time allows for any mistakes to be easily removed... 24 hours later I've had no probs removing unwanted wash made from oils.

I shall be using the Panzer III barrel, with the kit muzzle brake. The original solid barrel had a rebate at the muzzle end for the brake to fit over. As you can see from the photo, this is not present on the replacement. I came to the conclusion that a simple butt joint would be inadequate so I have a piece of 3mm clear plastic rod which, cut to length, will be inserted into the end of the barrel and into the muzzle brake as a sort of dowel. I am hoping that this will also act as a sort of light tube to transmit the LED flash to the brake.

On the matter of pinwash. When doing an enamel/oil wash, you can improve the capillary action by moistening the surface with some appropriate thinner, like odorless turpentine. It doesn't seem to work that way with acrylic wash though.

I need help again :S I don't know what I should expect after the pin wash. Whether it should be really visible or whether it is just an overall effect. This is what my Puma looks like now.

Is this OK or should I do it again, having varnished it first?
