I had a stug in 1/35th with concrete armour, that's what made me think 'hey that looks cool' :D
Im along the fabric/glue combo. Made a rolled up tarp for the back of my Munitionschlepper III.
Used the same stuff for the cover over the vacant turret ring.
The thing is even a touch of glue on it makes the stuff pretty rigid, like 'doping' on an RC plane skin.
I think it will be a careful compromise of using the white glue to stiffen & secure the leading & trailing areas but leaving the section over the mantlet raw.
Colour might then be a problem............................

Ahh challenges, we just love em :/ :/

You could try to find a used clothing store and look for a silk shirt to cut up. It is very soft and pliable and wrinkles well with mantles movement, the only problem will be finding one that's some shade of green or a light color to start with.
Here all I've seen are black and the amount of paint needed to make them another color make them to stiff..

I have used sections of rubber gloves and umbrella material with success in the past.

Thanks to both Mr Greens !
Good material ideas guys, I will have to do a bit of experimenting by the looks.
Out at work again so no build action, there are a few umbrellas around at the moment with all the storms so I might cut a patch out of one, hopefully without the owner knowing !!

Hi
A great build loving it.
For mantlet material have you tried curtain material. In Boyes they sell a thin backed material(sort of light cream colour) to sew onto curtains to make them into blackout curtains. It has a form of coating on one side to make it impervious to light and a nice sort of flocked feel to the other. I have used it in the past to make 1/16 tents or rolled up sleeping bags. the flocked side takes rattle can spray very well and does not crack ( it stays quite supple)
in the uk its £3.64 for 1m length of a 1.5m wide roll.

opp's you said get off the road

Wow !!..............options, I looooove to have options
I think our local outlet joint (spotlight)will have an example of each of these materials, so once Im home I will get along & see, then get a bit of each if I have to.
If it wasnt going to need to move with the barrel elevation I would use thin lead foil, but no such luck.

I really appreciate the advice yous fullas, It was a bit of an unexpected hurdle

Appreciate the offer mate, got a couple more sleeps to go out here then I can get onto it again.
I'm looking at tiying off the corners to hull fixtures as they would and if it's tight enough, should stay in place despite movement.
I hope to get a cam pattern on it this werkend, probably a Gross Deutchland style green lattice pattern over the yellow with more random applied pattern on the schurzen.
Once this is on & dry, can seal & begin the final fit out.
