Mike suggested a similar course of action. The DUKW's winch was pto driven from the trans/transfer case. There were three drive shafts, one for each axle. Another that drove the prop and bilge pump system, and one that ran all the way back to the winch. Since I have ample space on this one, I plan to use a worm drive (think 2 stage snow blower auger drive). Not on the drawing board yet, just rattling around the cranium.

Worm drive and gears from another smoker (still have plenty of extras).

I am still a rookie at electronics. Could not figure a way to control the two wire motor with the three wire receiver port. Ultimately I used an old servo plugged to the receiver and removed the motor and gears from the servo and attached power leads directly from motor tabs and ran them to the ex-smoker. I had a choice of channel 5 a variable switch but hard to find neutral or channel 4 that is a three position switch. The servo's output gear that controls the dash pot is still there along with a servo arm to find neutral.

I experimented with a single 540 and various gear reduction for the big duck. Even the various turns on the sample 540s I have around didn't make much of an effect. This is big and getting heavier and ducks tend to climb hills at least while leaving the water. Eventually, I stole the combo twin motor set up and trans from a Tamiya TXT1 monster truck. It is a bit noisy at part throttle but quiets down at full speed. This hull is an acoustic nightmare, imagen trying to install this stuff in wood guitar.

Eric, I don't know how I missed your photos of the winch rig for so long! Maybe I should not rely on the "Latest Posts" button. Thank you for some great ideas. I have a few scrounged smoke units to mess up. In fact, even without connecting up anything more, I could make the smoke unit for the FAMO into a winch and have easy on/off control. That would mean sacrificing the smoke function, but a working winch might just be worth it. Thank you for great, helpful ideas!

Been taking a break on the big duck. Have some parts headed in but have done very little on it. I did do some additional work on the engine bay. These were the only pictures I found of the WWII era under hood. Have no idea if the battery cable was red or not....





I did manage to drop a strip of aluminum on my battery and jumped waiting for the possible explosion. Realizing a moment later is was the plastic six volt made an hour earlier....

I needed a winch for my Bruder tank transporter low loader, and after searching the net I bought an electric winch from Banggood, shortly after it arrived I was looking through the Bruder booklet and they have a hand operated winch. Bought it and painted it then bolted it to the low loader bulkhead and it really does winch a Panzer 4 onto the trailer.No wires or battery just a cheap working manual winch.

Have not forgotten this thread, parts are inbound and I should have some pictures up soon.

I would never ignore your input (I may be the exception). I like the Bruder offerings, but this was a fun project to be RC'd (and it does pull the beast).

It does pull the beast, if the axles are not connected to the motor/trans (in that case it would take many times the force the winch provides)(think 1/2 ton pick up).
