My apologies kind sir, what I meant was, when the left stick is pushed up does the barrel go up, and when it is pushed down does the barrel go down, or does it operate the same way as the old version, and simply cycle up and down?
I am trying to figure out whether I have a faulty board or whether it is the wiring.

I think I may have to co-erce a fellow club member to bring along his T90 to the next meet, or pay a visit to one who has one, and see what the standard set up is like. First step will be to swap my board for his so that I know it is working as it should.
The circuits from the 8 pin on the T90 are some convoluted magickry, and without having a standard one in front of me I am going to struggle to see where the currents flow after they leave the board.

Many thanks, that's one mystery solved. I will have a T90 to look at tomorrow, so hopefully I can figure out what the 8 pin does. It should be possible to wire a tank without using the multi-socket on the underside of the hull, which is what I am aiming for.
I either have a wiring problem to solve, or I have a dodgy T90 RX18 with a malfunctioning speed controller. I am hoping that the RX18 is ok as it is ideal for installing an Arduino and converting an HL tank to servo recoil, a full IR battle system, and having half decent sounds on it, all for under £10.

It's a standard HL elevation unit, it's powered from the turret rotation pins (1&2) on the 8 pin plug. That's why it goes both ways. They have done something to make the rotation unit go both ways when on the elevation pins (3&4). The airsoft positive (or maybe negative) pin is pin 5 from what I can see.
The upper hull socket is different because the RX18 is, so its a matter of tracing circuits.
It's all totally different to all previous RX18's, a T90 and a multimeter should reveal what each of the 8 pins are connected to, and how. I should have an answer by Wednesday.

Yes, the elevation units have a slipper clutch in them, that's what the clicking is. There must be something stopping the cone from rotating, possible the BB unit is hitting something so the elevation unit clicks away until it has passed the point of resistance. If it does it when the barrel is on full depression or full elevation that would support the theory.
If it isn't just poor design/alignment then it could be a couple of wires over the top or bottom of the airsoft unit that are restricting movement.

Anyone who starts manufacturing an adapter for this thing can make big bucks lol

It shouldn't need an adapter, if I can figure out where the current goes from the RX18 it will be a simple matter to re-arrange the existing wiring. The under hull socket simply takes the revised 8 pin output and then routes it to the rotation, elevation and airsoft. I just need to figure out the direct routes from the 8 pin to those three motors.

Does anyone want to volunteer and make a video on how to wire this? Absolutely mind-numbing. Too much information!!!

Hi all,
If You only want to change old RX18 to the new Heng Long 2.4 Ghz (4:th gen V.5.3), Yes they are the same. Pop the lid and check the board if You are unsertain.
First off all, the 8 pole cable, put either end in the RX18 port and check the cable colours have the same order. Then do the same with the upper hull 8 pole conection, it will be in the same order. In my case from left to right when You look att the RX and the upper hull it is:
1 Red
2 Black
3 Blue
4 Yellow
5 Brown
6 Green
7 White
8 Orange
Here is the difference between the older and the new board:
Old:
1 Red + Turret rotation
2 Black - Turret rotation
3 Blue - Elevation
4 Yellow + Common Elevation/Airsoft
5 Brown - Airsoft
6 Green + Common Lights/ MG
7 White - Lights
8 Orange - MG
T90 New board
1 Red + Elevation
2 Black - Elevation
3 Blue - Turret rotation
4 Yellow + Turret rotation
5 Brown - Airsoft
6 Green + Common Airsoft, Lights, MG
7 White - Lights
8 Orange - MG
Hense 3 pieces 2 pole and one piece 3 pole conection on the upper hull.
In short terms, a new T90 board in an old Tiger tank, You have to choose if You want to do it with the old upper hull 8 plug connection to 2+3+3 or the new 8 plug connection to 2+2+2+3?
Either way You have to modify and change places on the turret rotation wires and the elevation motor wires, 2+2. The tricky part the 3:rd +2, regardless what, You don´t have to care much about lights and MG but You have to make a connector so:
5 Brown - Airsoft
6 Green + Common Airsoft, Lights/ MG
have a separate plug for the airsoft unit.
Then You have 2+2+2+3 on an old 8 plug upper board with a new T90 2.4 Ghz 4th Gen 18RX
And if You want it to work with an Asiatam RRZ unit...
