Hope you didn't argue with the seller of the jeep with rocket launchers to much about a canvas top, as they were never sold with a canvas top and I have one of the originals as it came in the box.
Have also never seen a picture of the real thing with canvas top as I'm quite sure the launched missals would have caused the jeeps interior to catch fire.

I am surprised it has not been mentioned or perhaps I have missed it, BUT Model "T" s were built in Germany in the 20s so it is not at all unlikely to find one outside a Gasthaus in the time of the last unpleasantness.

How right you are, Shaun and one reason might be that no one knew; I know I didn't. Still, maybe History isn't 'bunk' after all...Here's Henry himself contributing to it, and being suitably rewarded!

Giant, it looks like my ignorance was profitable. The listing claimed the item came with the canvass cover and the DM Exterior box. When it arrived I got the styrofoam and velcro strap but not the original outer white box (and I guess now I know why there was no canvass, either). I messaged the seller and said excuse me, your listing said these two items I didn't get, and he refunded $40 of my money. I don't feel too bad, because he did claim it came with the box and I know that can affect price by at least $20 or more. It's also very good to know about the top. I really did think it was supposed to have one until just now, so thanks for the info.

Thanks, Shaun, ya learn somethin' new every day, eh? I'm thinkin' about a Model T pickup, too. Just missed one for 20 bucks, but got beat out by half a dollar.

The ford factory in Germany was taken over by the German government and continued to produce trucks for the German army without the Ford name on them. You can find them in American form in 1/16th scale on EBAY, made by the same company as the jeeps but they are very pricey.

I just looked around a bit at 1/16 1941 ford flatbed trucks and you're definitely right about them being expensive. I don't think I saw a single one for less than $100, except for the franklin mint model T trucks. But, since I've now opened the can of worms I guess I'll have to save up some money for a couple of these '41 fords. There are also a lot of '46 ford trucks out there in our scale, I wonder if anyone would know the difference?

I have a 1941 Ford flatbed truck in 1/16 from years ago. Also have a 1946 Ford Fire truck too. They're both in good shape, dusty but that washes off. I think the fire trucks rear view mirror broke off but I think its in the cab. I haven't touched them in life 15 years.

I have the same fire truck but I cut it up and made kind of a deuce and a half out of it. Also got a Chevy flatbed and shortened it and painted it as a US truck. They all make good, to scale back round pieces and if you have your own private out door tank playground they can take the weather.

That's good to hear. Jack's truck is actually a Chevy (even better) and we worked a trade so I'm looking forward to seeing it up close. I'd really like to see photos of what you've done with yours, Greengiant.

The deuce and a half started out as a US army air corp painted firetruck. I bought a second one that was a regular fire engine red one that was junk (and really cheap)just to get a the extra rear wheels and the rear axel housing. may some day make the rear suspension work, right now it can only sit on flat surfaces.
Don't know why the canvas cover looks white in some pictures, as to look at it you see green like in the first photo.
The last pic is of the flatbed I mentioned. I shortened it just enough that the jeep wreck would fit on it.
Hwy 61 made quite a variety of 1940's fire engines and flat beds but none with dual rear axels.

THIS EDIT IS RATHER LATE But after looking at the deuce 1/2 decided it really needed to be improved on to make it look like the military 4x4 version. Looked at an old 1/35 scale model of one and copied its cargo box and did a frame and body raise to get more distance above the wheels like the 1/35 scale model. Also decided to leave the canvas off the top as the bed makes a good place to store all the I/16 odds and ends I had laying around and they look like stuff that would be trucked to units.
