The quality of this kv2 looks way ahead of the tiger. May pick one up after the leopard is finished.

Billpe, you would be well served by one. ;o) Not much going on tonight, hands are still recovering. I did the faux electrical wiring from the one siren over to the horn and headlight. Tomorrow I need to add the real wiring of the NOTEK light and then finish the siren on that side. Pics:

Yeah... I still regret taking those louvers out... the space could have been better used repositioning some of the internal components... the covers?PainlessWolf wrote:Good morning Alpha,
Good on the shackles then. Nice thing about the KV type plastic shackles is that they are plenty thick enough to cut off the faux bolt and nut and drill the shackle out for real ones. ;o) I remember the trouble that you had with the engine louvers on the KV-2 and had already decided to leave mine alone. ( The smoker mounts under the deck so opening up the louvers would pose a position problem right off of the bat ) The 'mesh' screen covers pop off so I am still deciding whether to replace those with metal ones or drill out the mesh on the stock ones or leave them alone as well and just paint them up nice. I think they would be bonzer dust catchers if I open them up or use mesh so it's 'a thought and think about it' thing still.

Oh..yeah.. the shackles... I'm good lol

Slightly different in actuation methodology ... but I get where you are coming from Tom...it could boil down to Taigen's quality control department.. perhaps they don't do enough testing before releasing a product ...as with my Panzer IV Taigen "upgrade?"...which offered zero suspension at all...it's just interesting that there have been several posts regarding the Taigen's version of the torsion system... It just makes one wonder you know?... granted all tanks require a little tweaking... but aside from the Heng Long T34(Jacked) ... I've never had to mod or play with any of my other suspensionstomhugill wrote:To be fair there's nothing wrong with torsion bars, it's no different to the spring HL use: if they're too soft for your unsprung weight you will have issues. The only difference is the HL springs can be clocked or replaced more cheaply and easily. My 9kg sturm is fine on the taigen torsion bar chassis. Unfortunately the kv-1 metal chassis got it wrong (for the kv-2 turret any way).

Good morning, Alpha,
*chuckles* I have a nice Tamiya horn on the sprue but this horn is metal so I left it alone. Looks reasonably good. The wiring junctions will look better under paint as well. Today I have to tape or find plastic tubing thin enough to mimic the solder I am using for the faux wiring so that I can run the wires for the NOTEK light through it. Or run the wires under the fender for a very short stretch into the deck section, etc. That might be better, it would allow me to run fake wiring for that light into the other for the siren on that side. I will have to see. I love problem solving ;o) I see your point on the plastic vents. A couple hundred quick drills with the yankee drill and they could be made functional. It would weaken the structure of them a little since they are hollow backed but I could strengthen the plastic ribbing with spring steel rod or strip. More to think about. Thanks for the ideas, my friend.

Painless
Edit: I used a #63 drill on the yankee drill and opened up a row on the plastic grill. It's doable but it doesn't have the appearance I am looking for ( round vs square holes ). I think it would make the grill super fragile to open up all those holes as well. I am probably going to salvage the surrounds or order a set from An-Bri-RC-Modellbau.de and use them in concert with the Tamiya photoetched grills. Pic:

You tried drilling out the grill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... That's crazy!!!!!!!
...........I drilled a hole in each corner also between the "frets" then one in the middle and just ground it all out with the ol' dremel ...put two brass rods on the underside...built up the tapered end so it was square like the rest of the "frets" and covered it with mesh...used household mesh as they were the most similar to what is shown in photos
But I have a strange feeling you are going to order the metal vent covers

Alpha,
Yessir, I could have done it but it wouldn't look right and a hard breath would break it so yep, ordered the Tamiya grills for the tank this afternoon.
