Re: UNLOVED BUT EFFECTIVE- SYRIAN 'FURY'
This has been an outstanding ride, Mr. Bix! Hope you don't mind, but I'm flagrantly swiping a bunch of your techniques and mods for my T-72. Dang, this tank grows on you!
Question--are you saving the job of painting "Fury" on the gun barrel to the very end? It's a fascinating photo with everybody in fatigues of every colour from Banggood and Aliexpress, and their combat Nikes-- surrounded by the complete year range of Toyota Hi-Luxes and Mitsu Barbarian tacticals. Youthful exuberance...
Awaiting your next inspiring installment!
Mike.

Re: UNLOVED BUT EFFECTIVE- SYRIAN 'FURY'
Thanks Mr Collector, you go right ahead and get your flagrant on mate, we all draw ideas and inspiration form the collective group in here
Up early as despite it being Sunday morning, Im still programmed for 0430 rising out in the field
Its now 0802 and 29C outside on the Gold Coast in my suburb............ok for painting !!
Got the paint on the exposed sub-guards(I believe its steel with Electrogalv on it) which looks alloy but isnt.
Also quickly dressed the mesh mounting rail with hull red XF-9 to get the exposed steel patina that may have already had a primer on it when they used it for this mod and welded it to the side of the tank.
Got the whole day to myself so should knock a lot off.

Re: UNLOVED BUT EFFECTIVE- SYRIAN 'FURY'
Been a busy day. Got the RPG mesh painted and fitted, fixed the unditching log(or whats left of it) in place, tracks painted, washed and fitted, roadwheels fitted, tow cables painted and placed, Rugby watched, Moto GP on......................
got a bit on
The 1mm bolts(thanks Mr Glover) are very small. Hard to grab and even harder to shorten & make accept the nuts without the thread picking up
Having the mesh secured, I could then fit the roadwheels and tracks.
Sitting on its running gear is a great feeling.
Pigments and other weathering next, plus painting the dreaded I.R. searchlights.
Been a fun one this has, but its still too clean

Re: UNLOVED BUT EFFECTIVE- SYRIAN 'FURY'
Bit more done.
Chipping and some pigment, light wash and a bit of Nato black on & in the exhaust outlet & mesh around it.
To replicate the diesel stain on the right side subguard I used a dash of old stock Oil stain, a Humbrol Enamel product. Added a bit of Ammo 3025 Syrian Ground and a bit more oil stain until it looked right.
The sense of lingering dust of the arid climate was pretty easy to apply with the pigment. I've never been to Syria, but I reckon the pigment is a fantastic colour,
The rougher the better for me.
If anyone has a tip for the colour I need to paint the I.R. searchlights, by all means- !!

Re: UNLOVED BUT EFFECTIVE- SYRIAN 'FURY'
Getting the right looking scratches on the barrel was harder than it looks.
I didnt want to remove too much paint, and without the remnants of the thermal sleeve on the barrel section between the bore extractor and the mantlet to increase the visual profile, I had to muck around a bit to get the right look.
Still a bit to do before calling it, but I'm happy with the over all look so far.
I've made some miliput sandbags for the front glacis plate that are common on the front of these Syrian tanks, I assume to reduce small arms spall and give the crew some mental fortitude against the RPG threat.
When placed in amongst the rest of my tank fleet, it sticks out like swollen dogs you-know-whats

Hmm... Are there any 1/16 Toyota HiLux trucks to surround your T-72?
