Delighted to hear the news Rob. :clap: :D :D :D
Great result. Now I can tell you the definition of a backup that we it people have, it's the job you were about to do when the machine crashed! :D :haha:
Can I suggest you invest in a stand alone file server for backup purposes?
Best regards
Alwyn :thumbup: :wave:

I have a cheaper alternative. I will just email the files to myself, that way the attachments will always be there and I can get them back anytime, anywhere, even if the house burns down. :D

What a nightmare Rob, I'm glad you managed to get to the bottom of it though. It's a relief, but also a little unnerving how semi-permanent data on a disk can be. I would never have dreamed of being able to recover anything after reformatting a drive, much less retrieve incremental versions of the same file. I guess my paranoia about personal information was well-founded, and I will continue to hoard every hard drive I have ever owned. :shifty:

Hearty congratulations on your marathon effort. Some time ago, after I had problems with a hard drive, I invested in a Network file server as a back up for my photos and other important files. It uses RAID software so in itself backs up everything on twin disks. I also keep a copy on an external drive. So far I have not need the back ups but I am not taking any chances.

Your adventure has certainly been an eye opener. And yes, emailing oneself data is the way to go, I've done that in the past, until I stupidly cleared all my unread messages, like some of the important ones that I left unopened till I needed them :{

May I suggest you form a few folders within your email to store these precious emails :thumbup:
That's exactly what I have done, that way I won't delete them.

Now that I have cleaned out the laptop of any files that I may need, I have run a program to overwrite all of the 'unused' disk space, therefore wiping it with no chance of recovering anything. I'll do the same with the desktop pc when I am totally sure that I don't need to recover anything from there.

Many thanks for posting the Chieftain scads Rob, they will save me many hours. If it's ok I will probably need to tweak a few of the scads to get an exact fit but I'll make sure the acknowledgements are included, :thumbup: :clap: :clap:

Back on the game now. Printed a former so that I could bend brass rod sections all the same length, and attached them to the turret.

The upper hull is almost complete now. Just need to mount the turret and fix up the turret rotation motor. There may be a delay in getting the lower hull whilst Forgebear gets the parts that I need, he did me an excellent price but has to order it all in. I don't mind waiting if it saves me some cash. :D

It will now be June before I get the lower hull etc, so this is about as far as I can get with this build. Getting the front end right was a proverbial pain in the buttocks, it took several attempts before I was happy with it.
