Is this the turret that you printed...I am seeing how it turns out on the Delta printer printed as one piece, 15 mins into a 1hr 20min print time. It looks a bit small, but it says 1/16 scale.

Hi Rob, yes that is the one BUT.. you have to scale it up by 2.28 in CURA to get the correct size. I think the STL is for a 1/35 scale turret.

Sorry I could have advised you before you started and saved you a wasted print! :{ :{

Actually that is pretty fast! Even if it takes 3 times as long it's still a heap faster than on my puny printer.

I wondered why it fitted on the print bed so easily! lol. His file says 1/16?? Not that I have a JS2 to fit it on to. :/

Have a go and build one - all you need is a KV1 chassis - come to think of it I have a spare you can have. :D :haha:

Why should I be the only one going nuts?

1 hour 22mins to print a turret that is 2.28 times too small.... Looking at it I can see why you were disappointed. He scanned a 1/35 turret (badly) and then repaired the file using various bits of software. What is printed is the result of his 'experiment'. It all printed as one piece though, even if it is completely unuseable. :/

Crikey, Rob. I think Alwyn's done well to get that turret looking as good as it does, but Milliput will help reconcile any discrepancy between 3D print and blueprint. ;)

The turret walls are ok, nice and smooth (or as smooth as a scan will produce), but as Alwyn has mentioned, the roof is paper thin, and very poor quality. The only way around it is to grind off the cupola and vents, smooth it all down with milliput, and then reprint the components to glue on separately again. The base is the same, and as Alwyn has done, a turret ring mount has to be designed and printed.

Anyways, this is Alwyn's build thread, so I don't want to intrude... :shh:

Hi Guys, the section on the turret was no intrusion, it was interesting.

I've started the upper hull build

This is the easy bit, it gets very interesting doing the front hull and the turret mount!

Once the upper hull is more solid I will remove some of the underneath bracing to make more hull space, At the moment I'm trying to get a nice rigid upper hull.

Progress is painfully slow as the blueprints don't show the part of the model that I am building at the moment as the turret is in the way, so it's all having to be scaled from the 1/35 model, and checked, and rechecked.....

Anyway some progress has been achieved:

I'll just keep plodding along!

Progress on the upper hull with the front glacis looking something close

and with the wip turret

Needs a lot of milliput to get the correct shape and texture for the castings, but I still need to do small things like the drivers periscopes, front hatch, and air vents before I can start sculpting.
