Re: Grant
I am so confused now. I was talking about the gun on the M3 which for some strange reason I referred to it as the L70. Is this Pz IV L70 made by the same dude? Didn't mean to hijack this thread but I am just talking about the M3 kit and nothing else.
Re: Grant
Well I just mentioned the L70...said the Grant was ok..but thought Woz's was cleaner ...didn't think the issue of the L70 would waste so much space time and words....MichaelC wrote:I am so confused now. Re: Grant
It's ok it's boosted up my viewing figures lol. I do like lively debate though.. Back to the Grant though.. As Woz said before his Grant kit is made to fit straight onto a hl Shermann chassis and the transmission cover too, this allows use of the original gearboxes . I've adapted gearboxes to give the extra length that there was on the real ones which you can see on the you tube link they work brilliantly. Even though I love scratch building so much I couldn't resist getting Warrens Grant turret for several reasons mostly because I want to see how much 3d printing has progressed secondly it will give me a starting point and then I also wanted to see if the design Warrens done has captured the odd little curves that the real turret has when you really check out a turret it's not as simple as it looks and Woz has from the pictures I've seen come closer than the big plastic model companies in getting it right
I'm manning the gun's ! Who's driving ?
Re: Grant
I went for a the "That looks about right" approach. There's lots of curves and bumps that'd be impossible to get accurately unless someone did a 3d scan of a real turret. Also from looking at photos there seems to be two main types of Grant turrets and even they have variations.
Anyway I think it's a good base to start with and any major faults can be made rightwith a bit of sanding and milliput. One thing that is missing is the point where the aerial is mounted. At the time I couldn't find any good pics to work out how to do it so I left it off. It is something that is easy to scratch and makes cleaning up the top of the turret easier.

Thing was when I look at that Grant the main issue I found was that the main gun was fixed...I'm sure it could be modded....but Woz's is separate...still watching both...want to see how you all solve the issue with all the moving surfacesI do like lively debate though.. Re: Grant
Lol not on your nelly CDL deff not my thing. Besides my turrets waiting for me at the post office. the intention is to had the turret rotate and gun elevate but the main gun to elevate rotate and recoil

Re: Grant
OH.........ok...thought that variant was cool myself...but I guess I wouldn't do one either...though the dummy turret gun would make it a easier job lol....So back to the normal Grant ...guess something like this is out of the questionNickDonitz wrote:Lol not on your nelly CDL deff not my thing.
