Stellar work on the grills, Alpha. ;o) Indeed, the play is the reward for all of your hard work. I love the perspective shots of the grills from the turret top. ;o)

Lucky it was one that came out clear :haha: ....I had another beneath it... but my eyes were tired when I took the photos.. and couldn't tell if it was in focus or not... so I got a second opinion.... My nephew ... who lives with me... said yeah that look great... it's clear .. well when I downloaded and put on photobucket... and brought it here the only thing that was clear is that my nephew's eyes are worse than mine :haha: ...so I deleted it

What's your opinion on the mesh Painless? personally I don't care for household mesh...but it at least showed the bars

Alpha,
Remember, I liked the original mesh that you used for the engine cover on the T-34. It looked Sov style industrial. So does the mesh that you used on the KV-2 . Despite my love of detail on a tank, I am by no means a 100% realism proponent. I got back into tanks for the fun _and_ relaxation. Like Dietrich, I know that a lot of what happened back in the day has been lost to the years and that includes what went on a tank, approved and unapproved while in production and in service in the field.

Painless

Here suffering from a flare up of TCS....and feeling a little sorry for myself .... I said hell with the TCS and pushed on.... decided to do some relatively easy work on my KV
first prepping the parts.... for the creation of my "hidden" antenna

using plain old copper tubing... yes. the kind used in plumbing...I fabricated the necessary parts

the loom of black wire is the antenna from a scrapped helicopter... the brass tube is your standard hobby shop available stock
No those are not pennies lol.... but flattened out tubing cut into proper sized end plugs

I soldered everything together using a 100 watt soldering iron ...this is the end result ... after five hours

did a little file work to clean up the details ....I wasn't going to mount it...as my hand was starting to hurt again... but once again said hell with it... as I wanted to make sure the assembly would have enough clearance for the turret

The slightly larger barrel maintenance kit had lots of clearance...and in my eyes... looks a lot better than the tiny stock piece....
I didn't do the internal hook up yet...but that should only take a few minutes ;)

Yes Painless... I do remember.... thing about that mesh... I had to agree with the person who offered me some different options...that initial vent was a bit large... and hid the work on the louvers underneath...that's basically why I changed it... not to satisfy any notions of realism... but perhaps to enhance the fact that HENG LONG really went out of their way to make the T34 an "improved" release... which I feel they did accomplish...not to mention.. show off those louvers :haha:

I think you know me well enough Painless... to know I'm kind of past that realism stuff... because the mods can be endless...like you and Dietich.. I like to have fun... diving in too deep isn't fun for me...what I try to do is find a middle ground so to say...and pretty much do just enough..to make the stock tank .. just a little more fun while retaining some form of authenticity ...one of the reason's I will step off a project build .... evaluate and decide where to go from there...and with the completion of the antenna this KV is almost ready for paint....I just have to fab two small brackets for the cable tensioners (because I lost one when removing the side armor lol ).... and some shackles...I've seen only welsh stock the ones for the KV ... but it's too small of an item to order ;)

Anyway... no matter what temptations to build another ... or refine details... the main thing for me is to finish whatever I start...because that's when the fun truly comes

Thanks Painless

:haha: Hey lister fiend... I think within everyone there lay a lazy %^&*$@) :haha: ,,,I know one lay within me :D ...and I never imagined this build would be so involved...in the beginning it went from yay! to OMG what have I gotten into 8O ....it was sure an awakening adventure...probably one I hope not to do again :haha:

With that said though... she has come a long way.... and in my eyes sits pretty....so the reward from the laborious work is there... :D

Thanks Lister fiend

Just an added note... I wasn't sure about including the assembly of the "hidden" antenna...because many of you have or are going to switch to 2.4 gig rigs

But it's there.. it's done... on to having fun :D

Good Morning, Alpha,
Completely understandable. You've had a lot of fun building this one and it's almost complete. Very nice and neat solder work on the external antenna. I enjoy your builds for the obvious enthusiasm that you bring to them.
Happy Holidays!

That antennae set up is killer, and very stealth. Love it!!! What solder are you using with your 100 wt solder iron?
