Correct. certainly NO FAULT of your model! Hull alignment is Very exact. However, you can't control track casting and there is always some length/play in track.
Cheers

Little bit more:
tracks now at perfect tension and perfect position. axle is in mid position of front-rear travel and can be adjusted either way. just enough spring. did some basecoat ivory white interior and dull brown undercoat. many extra hull screw hulls were drilled for bevel screw and lock nuts.
if I push down on hull with about 12-15lbs, very nice spring action to road wheels. should be able to take some scale weight for nice live action suspension movement.
brass gear cover will get paint.

Since everything else is going to be correct, I decided to get the right tracks. Bought them for 89E from Dominique at rctank.de
Excellent service and items in my hand in
7 DAYS!! WOW!
They have good prices, on other items too!

the first time you log on and set passwaord is frustrating because you have to log off and log back on, so don;t fill your cart before you create password.

It will be interesting to see the tracks moving, and what effect this has on the Hull? Often wondered about the squared off hull sections at the forward end of the hull and how the tracks were tensioned? If to lose the tracks would seem to drag the hull edge, Get it running XRAD, lets see how this bad boy drives,
Are you using Chris's track guide on the hull as well as your tensioner assembly? Sax

Sax: chris's kit does not come with mudguards/guides. I will make my own.
as far as tensioners:
The original tank could not have the tensioners in the front because the brake shoes are mounted to the carrier on the outside of the hull. That means front idlers are stationary.
In the rear, the geared down electric motors do not seem to have adjustable positions. I have looked at every available photo of Elefant construction there seems to be no method of track tensioning.
If there is, it is in the rear and probably done internally .
I have reviewed many pics of the tracks. When new, the elefant tracks are in position like mine above. all the factory pics show this. but...looking at later pics of used and worn tanks, the tracks all start sagging.
It is very possible that the tracks are one size fits all or that the track tensioners are a real PITA to adjust and it was not done often..if at all. That would make changing tracks a real PITA as well . Most non combat pics of track changing shows the track being pulled over the front idler and the pin inserted just below the idler. this makes sense as the brake can be used to hold the upper track and idler in position.
PS: Tracks on correctly..see factory pic below:

many pics in the field show tracks reversed...wonder if this is for installation utility or actually worked better??

some updates...few more hours...trying to make exact copy of the Aberdeen tank..but will then paint and weather to a 653rd tank or something around that time.
each bolt is turned exactly as the aberdeen tank.....angle of 'extra' glacis plate (upper trim off, side trim off, and overall angle) and near exact. Bolts are not spaced evenly on the real tank..that is why they are not even on this model.
There are three armor decks on top of the original hull plate as shown in the pics..not yet trimmed. Each plate has angled edges, and the grates have angled (rounded/beveled..whatever) edges too.
Lifting eyes are in different positions on different tanks ..and may be able to rotate...
Rear front deck has 3 seperate hatches with cover vents..can;t find too many close up pics of this area(the little vents, not the gtraes).
All welds will be copied as well.
Brass rod bent for tow eyes. Aluminum hull vertical side plates trimmed as original.
