Here comes idler wheel

I've just exchanged a few e-mails with Alex about this 'model'.

Firstly its clear that the level of engineering involved here is utterly amazing. In fact it's on a par with the kind of obsessive perfection you see if you visit something like the Redhill Steam Fair where the guys who build scale model steam engines exhibit. This isn't just a model that LOOKS right, it's one where the mechanical accuracy extend to the way components are assembled. Wheels use multiple parts and screw together, the final drive uses the external casing for the final reduction, the turret turns on a fully ball-raced ring like a real tank.

This is less a model and more a masterpiece of engineering and I would love to own one, partly for the joy of putting it together and partly for the pride of owning such a stunning piece of engineering.

The price for the kit excluding electronics but including shipping and import duty would be around £1600, although they are offering some discounts and to include the brushless motors and ESC.

I know that sounds a lot, but to be honest, if this wasn't being made in China, this would be several times more. This is the kind of thing that you could see on display at the Model Engineering Exhibition and stand and stare in awe......

Comparisons with Tamyia or any other normal, commercially available model are meaningless.

All I have to do now is hope that a) I do actually get some kind of bonus next year and b) that Aero-Mate are still producing this by the time I do......

I don't think that is an outragous price. Look what you have to pay for Armortek kits for poorly fitting parts. OK, you get a lot more metal in an Armortek tank, but the cost of the material is only a small part of the kit. It takes just as long to machine a part in 1/16 as it does in 1/6.

Also, look at the prices of some of the European all metal offerings and compare.

I don't see how you can compare it with live steam models though. Most of the steamers are scratch built and can take thousands of hours to make. I have one here, it took over 3,000 hours to build, but it is a museum quality model.

I heard of somebody who had invested nearly £4,000 in a Tam Tiger, which makes this offering seem cheap by comparison!

The thing is Peter that although this isn't one-man scratch-build, from all the close up images I've seen, the workmanship here really isn't that far off. It's perhaps just missing the final level of obsessive detail that the live steam builders insist on - e.g. it uses tiny screws where it should have tiny hex head bolts.

There's no doubt that this is only because it's being produced in China, it just wouldn't be vaguely viable here.

As I said. Love it and want one something chronic!

Barrels are 239.00 YUAN equal to 36.31us or 22.70 sterling. This seems like a very good price for a machined barrel with a muzzle brake? Is this correct Jack/Alex or is their some other cost involved?

Exhaust parts are 189.00 YUAN equal to 28.71us or 17.95 sterling. This also seems like a good price for machined parts,Is my math correct or have I made an error? Please advise Jack/Alex if this is correct and are you taking orders at this time? Do you combine shipping on multiple parts ordered?
