Re: Centurion turret pics

Post by mickyb »

Hi

I have put some more fotos of the Centurion turret build in the "other builds" section...just for the foto pervs... :crazy:

Can anyone tell me what machine gun would be fitted on the British Centurion MK5 turret....and where I can get one :S

I will be applying a coat of paint next so here is a question for Fleshy - what colour would this tank have been, is it drab olive like the Sherman? If so I will have a coat on at the weekend.....excitin' ennit. :clap:

Next time I post a foto, the Centurion will be externally complete so who will be next with a foto project......

Have a good week fellas

Mike

Hi Fleshy....

many thanks for the info, I will get some of each and spray over the weekend if the air it isn't too damp in the shed.

I set the fire alarms off when I sprayed the PZ4 in the boiler room at a certain supermarket. I poo'd myself when that happened. That room was great for a spray booth as it had extracts as well as the built in heaters :haha: ....just a shame about the particle detectors tho'. When I came out of the boiler room, I thought it was strange that everything was so quiet in the warehouse.... Stores are certainly very quiet when everyone is standing in the car park freezin their wotsits off 'cos the fire alarms have gorn off :crazy:

Kept that quiet for months..... :shh:

Have a great Easter folks...

Centurion in primer

Post by mickyb »

Hi,

here you are, the Centurion in primer. I have spent a couple of days getting to this point and I had better stop for a few days or start sleeping with one eye open :S

I am going to add tools, tow cables and a machine gun on the turret and leave it there. So any help with a good picture of a suitable machine gun would be appreciated. Ta

I hope you all got a nice Easter Egg.....

Have a good Easter lads....

Mike

mick now a little more on later tanks but depending on the era of your cent if its a later build it would im guessing have the G.P.M.G as the coaxial weapon see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_MAG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; if your doing an earlier variant than 1950 then at a guess it would be a bren :thumbup: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bren_light_machine_gun" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

this site http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/we ... urion.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
says the secondary armament was a 7.62 mg so it seems the gimmpy was the weapon
not sure though on an earlier model cent :shifty:

Early models had a .50" as the ranging mg, the idea being that the .50" fired a phosphor tipped round that matched the trajectory of the original 20 pdr - if you saw a white puff on the target, you are good to fire the main gun...

The 105 armed versions easily out reached the .50' and so I believe it was dropped in favour of the 7.62 to standardise ammunition.
hope this helps

The Australian Mk5's have a .50 Co axe and the commander has a .30cal. Don't know about the other owners.

Many thanks for the info lads.

My effort is of an Early British MK5 so using your info I will put a 50 Cal next to the main gun and a .30 on the turret. On the oposite side of the main gun I will put the Battle led.

I think I will completely scratch build my next tank because my experience on this build has shown that more time has been spent "un building" this HL tank before creating my own model from it.

Many thanks, I will now trawl the web for a .30 foto and make a turret gun to suit.

All the best
