most of the cammo is complete. Lots of weathering to do and fine little details. Here is an easy way to creat hull mounting points. Just reuse the Mato mounts after trimming off the unused cable. Then drill through for cable passage(not exactly like original..but close. Then drill small hole and sick in Schumo wingnuts! just need some paints...

More details. Save some money and just use Schumo wingnuts on the MAto wire brackets...looks good, too. MAto track wire with rust and steel coloring. MAto fire extinguisher. Mato tools to go back on soon...

Front guards are moveable so that I can remove the upper hull. Somehow the recoil unit is off by a hair so that gun moves forward 3mm before recoiling....don't know if worth fixing....

Anyway..this build is coming along very well. I have some fine brown dirt from my driveway for more detail later...have to make some mud glue...

Some video running at full speed. Going to wait a week or so for the paint to fully dry before final detailing..

This is my best build so far with all the right parts coming together nicely.

Cheers

Bit of old thread revival!

How did your final build work out. Looking at the work put in it is not really a budget build but in all how much would you say you spent on the Tamiya bottom end? The last pictures look very good.

I have a Matorro King Tiger sitting here, the electronics were fried from new and will be replaced soon but I am debating if I should do anything else to it. The lower gear box bulge is rather annoying but I was thinking of maybe cutting it and then flattening it out before sticking it back in.

Pretty indecisive at the moment with this tank, I have four other builds running at the same time. Initially I was looking to replace the electronics with HL, add the uprated 3:1 brass gears, metal tracks and possibly road wheels if I can get them for a good price. The idea of using the Tamiya bottom end is certainly a new and interesting option.

Hi there:

I have not yet finished it....everything functional but I have to finish the detail painting and dust/dirt ..markings..etc..

It was a super build. Much fun with few problems...tough parts like making side skirts and gun conversion...and finding the correct late model tracks and 18 tooth sprockets..

all together somewhere about 1100$ or less..

but this is with the Mato kit...if it was a tammy kit...add another 600$..

I like the paint work so far, have you decided on a unit or numbering? The paint work seems a little bit modern, but the King Tigers were rather unique in their camo designs from the few rare photos. I'm liking this very much,my Henschel is ready for paint,I finished the zimmerite to night and if the weather gets above 60 this month I may get some paint sprayed.

Really want to see this completed, xrad. I do believe this is your longest build to date.

Thanks Fellas..

paint work is a bit modern but I have a few pics taken from film about the time of Ardennes offensive with this pattern..Also, olive green was also being used at this time..so I kinda put the two together..It will still get a little white wash and be one of the few remaining KTs after the bulge..

probably western front markings.. probably an official unit designation but i will fake the actual tank #
