"Do not cut your hand on that chopped off track guard!" You got that right, Painless. However, I would guess that MrChef can handle all kinds of knives.

I always see you guys using a green putty for your weld beads. Since I am going to actually have a go on my Sherman build which putty is that? I've bought the Quick type Tamiya Epoxy Putty. Hoping I get a good result with it although I have plenty of time to try and get it rightMrChef wrote: ↑Fri Dec 26, 2025 6:22 amNooo, noo, no boodletting this evening...Herr Dr. Professor wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 4:09 pm "Do not cut your hand on that chopped off track guard!" The "Green Stuff" I use is it's actual name. from Greenstuff works or Kneadatite. It's a 2 part epoxy putty that has a good working time, about 2-3 hours. There are other brands but I chose this one for its working time since I needed the time to learn.Panzermechaniker wrote: ↑Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:00 pm I always see you guys using a green putty for your weld beads. It's important to note that this putty does cure to a hard solid surface but not a rock solid brittle surface like other putties.
Also, 2 other things about this putty, to work with it since it is very sticky when mixed I use cool water to moisten my hands and tools and the surfaces it touches. This type of putty hardens/cures with heat and the reaction between the blue and yellow epoxies. If you put it in the freezer I have actually been able to use it the next day. But once it's mixed and heat of just room temperature will harden it in 3-5 hours and fully cures/harden in about 12 hours.
I over estimated when I first purchased it and got the Big A55 stick which has been entirely more than enough and will likely outlive me.

Here is an example of what to work towards. I use 2 pieces of scrap styrene sheet, lightly wet them with cool temperature tap water and roll the noodles. Then pick them up with a wet bamboo stick, place in the desired spot, push into place with the wet stick then use this fabbed tool to press in the weld bead marks. NOTE that this putty noodle is big and an example to show how I work with it and needs to be made much thinner before being applied. That little piece is enough to do almost the whole weld bead around the commanders copula. It was rolled much thinner before I stuck it on. Then it flattens out and I pressed in the weld bead marks.

Here is what the tool looks like. I used an old chopstick and aluminum can with electrical tape. I've cut and shaped the "blade" and then used sandpaper to smooth. Got the idea from "Night Shift" Martin Kovac on YouTube. He used Tamiya 2 part epoxy putty but I couldn't source that.

I have other cheap plastic clay modeling tools I picked up at Michaels arts and crafts but this is the tool I use for these types of welds. And there are "other" types of welds, people make other shaped tools. I actually had to dumb down the welds on the T34-85 and didn't even use this tool.
Hope that helps.

The one I use is not the "Green Stuff" Kneadatite putty brand, but it comes as a roll like this one: https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/outl ... utlet.htmlPanzermechaniker wrote: ↑Fri Dec 26, 2025 5:00 pm

The other brand I've seen used is Apoxie sculpt 2 part epoxy putty.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll try the Tamiya stuff I've got first and then if it doesn't work for me I can try the green stuff. Night Shift definitely like the Tamiya Quick stuff
