I recommend adding ballast to it, just to get it sprung right, maybe mag wheel weights that are adhesive backing.?

For a clear body, why not use vac formed Lexan. It has enormous tear strength, is light, can be painted as necessary using polycarbonate paints etc. It remains flexible so probably no good for manhandling (pick up by tracks) but hard to damage. It's what all those crazy fast RC race cars use so it's well tested!
