That happens when you break the rules. I've never had a post deleted or edited on RCU.

Like I said, I Mod a small 40k forum and when someone breaks the rules I edit the post and say which rule they're breaking, but sometimes when things are busy I just delete the post with no explanation. Occasinally you'll get someone (it's usually a teenager*) who joins, post things that break the rules then it's "teddy from the pram" time  when they get edited. They then starts going on about freedom of speech and calling the mods Nazi's and generally being a pain in the ass. Most times I've been able to talk about it and the member eventually calms down but sometimes they don't and they end up getting banned.

RCU is a huge forum and the tank section is only a small part of it (9476 members logged in at the moment and 14 are viewing the tank section). Mods don't have time to sit down and discuss everyones problems. It's easier to just delete posts that break the rules then ban the member if they keep breaking them. So yes they can be a bit quick with the delete button on RCU, but if you've spent over an hour editing other peoples posts then deleting stuff soon becomes the easier option.

Anyway Mat, I think you're doing a good job here but wait till you get people joining who think you're rules suck and they can do a better job.

* It's 40k so most of the members are teenagers

I use a auto spelling checker before I post any thing, it underlines words it does not recognize and the you can edit it or use a suggested word in the right click drop down menu

YHR, one thing i dont get is how you mind about RCU being automatially edited, but as many people have stated there are children on the forum, and yet you careless go on swaering in every post ? i know after i say this you many attempt to edit it out, but by me saying this hopefully you wont.

anyway, ill leave this topic here for say 2-3 days so that people can clear up with each other, then i will archive it, as we dont want to have an rcu type topic on this forum's main board! ;)

one other thing that oneld happen on rcu, im sorry for the inconvenience. ;)

cheers,

YHR feel free to pm me if you want,

Matt

edit : curse i wish i could spell.
Matt
Be careful not to dig a hole

I do not go carelessly swearing in every post.  This statement by you is completely false.  The first time I typed I an off color remark in 100 posts was in this one.  My apologies to those who took offense to BS. You underestimate me Matt.  The words I write I stand by.  I edit many of my posts, but only to correct spelling and grammer.  My Bull #### comments are there and will stay there.  It only indicates how wrong I felt this auto editing prank is.

I also doubt my post pointing out a breach of ethics would be deleted in RCU.  This is a fundemental principle in written journalism.  You want to do something with the wording of my posts then you must enter in an editors note to let other people know the message has been tampered.  Either that or delete the post entirely. That is the right thing to do. You don't pass of your bias on other peoples posts.

As I mentioned I have posted on RCuniverse for years, and never once have I had a problem.  Why.  Because I follow the rules.  With no other agenda then enjoying tank modeling and displaying your work you will never have a problem.  Yes if you want to use them to launch your own agenda, you will be called on the carpet.  That is something you should expect.

If you are only 15 as Alison pointed out, I hope you learned a valuable lesson.  What this little joke did was far worse then anything RCU did.

Bottom line is, the practice has stopped.  End of story.

You see Matt running a Forum is not easy.

You say you are going to archive this thread in a couple of days,  Effectively making it disappear. Why is that?.  It was fine for RCU bashing but not OK when RCTankwarfare is shown in a negative light?

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

I'll cut you some slack and let this go. My comments are made simply to let you know it is not easy pleasing all the people all the time.  You obviously are very annoyed at RCU, but you are starting to demonstrate the same power of authority that they used on you, and as soon as you start doing that, some people are going to be upset.

Before being to critical, walk a mile in the other man's shoes.  Do that and I think you will understand the actions of RCU.   Rules and ethics are important, and you must stand firm.  The fact is if I went on to RCU and started a thread about my new forum, they would ban me too.

Cheers

Dan

On the matter of changing the wording of posts, I agree wholeheartedly with you YHR. It was a joke which got out of hand and shouldn't have happened in the first place. You were right to be so angry about it.

But I do have cause for bitter feelings towards those that police RCU. I posted a lot of stuff on RCU too and was very careful to obey the rules. Like you I had no other agenda than than enjoying my hobby of tank modelling and displaying my own work.

Yet I had my PM privilege removed. No warning. No explanation. I politely emailed RCKen and asked why that had happened and if he could point out my offending post(s). He did reply with a terse 'what's your username? (It was in my original email message by-the-way - I'm not that dozy). I politely replied with my username again and that was the last I heard. I go on to RCU from time to time to see if my PM function has been reinstated but no.

If I had been a naughty boy, I would not be too bothered. But I had done absolutely nothing wrong and that's what really p@ss@s me off. I and others like me on this forum shouldn't have had any problems, but we did, bigtime and we still don't know why we were (and continue to be) treated so shabbily.

i was unable to edit my posts or send a pm because a guy asked what tools i used to do the weld seams on my Pz III, all i did was to post a link of a site that sold Pyrogravure,s yet if you read their rules you "CAN" post links, the guys question and my link were both deleted.
if mods don't have the time to discuss problems with forum members the answer is simple !!DON'T DO IT!!, if i have a post edited deleted or my privileges blocked then i damn well want to know why (or maybe thats just me) sometimes i have been a bit sharp in my comments and have deleted or modified the post myself after releasing i was being a bit stupid, but persecuting people just for trying to help someone is what i don't understand and not explaining why is just bloody bad manners.
if people think the rules of this  forum suck then the answer is again simple "DON'T Join" if someone does complain about this site and reckon they could do a better job then you can bet my response will definitely be deleted, i wasn't happy about my post,s being auto edited but as you can see the mods here are quick to react to any questions queries or problems that occur, unlike RCU mods who don't have the time don't care or are to lazy to do the job they were asked or volunteered  to do.
so going back to your original response WOZ, do you think its right that my posts and pm,s should be blocked and or deleted because i post a link to a guy who is asking me for help and advice on how to improve his modeling skills ?. i thought thats what this hobby and these forums are all about, obviously i am wrong in that assumption.
                                        most respectfully.................oz

I feel for you guys who were treated unfairly without explanation.  Maybe a renegade mod.

Hi Guys As stated in a previous post one at least of our members(Chris Grompix) had his P.Ms stopped on RCU not for breaking the rules he had done nothing wrong ,Quote he had is P.Ms stopped because he MAY send P.Ms to other members of RCU about this club/forum .What RCU did has been pointed out was to hit everyone who was interested in this club/forum and guilty or not of breaking the rules had there P.Ms stopped ,using a sledge hammer to crack a nut ,Guilty because they were joined the membership here .If they did that with all the members they wouldnt have any.So I would say to others who are members of RCU is it fair to ban someone who hasnt broken the rules ,but because they may do so .if so why havnt you been banned ,you may also break the rules in the future so you to should be banned .Also why is it this club/forum that seems to get this treatment have seen stacks of links to clubs that have forums on them and they dont get removed or have there P.Ms stopped .

yes i said im going to archive it to prevent further bickering, think about it, if this were on RCU then the thread would not have gotten past 3 posts. and think it lucky that it will be here, im leaving it so that we can resolve the problem. and thats not good enough ?

Cut me some slack ? hehe, great thing to say after 2 pages of moaning.
Starting to demonstrate the same powers ... ok thats completely Irrevelvant, as if this were on RCU, you would have been banned and this thread deleted. Mabe you havent had problems, but the world unfortunatly, doesnt revolve around you.

thanks,

Matt

p.s. this may not make alot of sense as 2 posts were posted while typing..
