Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Yep, I checked out the battle armor site and some really good info on the TBS mini and set up, etc but I couldn't find any (obvious) way to actually place an order. Being in the Uk it will probably be easier for me to order direct from the Benedini site,
I have run my M36 a couple of times only but it performs fine with stock motors. However this has been mainly of the flat grass so I'm not sure at present how well it will work on the inclines (I'll trial it before I strip it down for rebuild and paint). As I say I think there is more than enough room to accommodate the FRS 8 speaker.

Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Hard for me to tell from the photos but it looks like the promax 480's at 1.8" (46mm) long will fit? I love those motors so if they can fit that is my eventual plan. The TBS with a good speaker is really quite amazing and though I use the BARC 4/ guys on the forum also use the Clark. If you want to order anything or just ask him some TBS/Clark questions: crowley@telusplanet.net
Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Only have Tiger I, KT and StuG to compare but that M36 also looks like the tracks and suspension are really sturdy and could run in fine dirt or clay even without issues? My Tiger does okay but the StuG tends to bind in the tracks in dirt or snow. I am surprised as it is a pretty open wheel/ track system compared to the Tiger.
Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Those Promax motors sound really good but I can't seem to source them on this side of the pond. Others have recommended the JP480. I'm looking at the moment for these for my Torro KT build (it's a hefty lump of tank) but if they fit I'll maybe get them for the M36 too as being all metal it is no lightweight for sure. As I mentioned Mato have been quite thoughtful with the suspension, doubling up the front bogie springs and generally all seems pretty robust - but bear in mind I have only had the M36 a few week and not run it much so far.
I have decided to definitely go the Clark/Bendini combo route. Do you think the additional (2 x 3w) amp is needed or do you find it loud enough standard? Also do I need the usb programming cable you think?

Here is a link for the Promax if you want: http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-10.html
I have them in my very heavy KT they are good motors.
Don't hesitate to email Dan either he knows all of this stuff inside and out.
But I run a 15x2 or 20x2 amp off of the TBS (7.5 or 10 watts per channel) One output for the FRS 8 (7) the other for
acoustic smoker (1 inch speaker). But on the M36 I may just use the standard TARR first. A few things- Now this is with
the BARC (DBC) and RX 18 not the Clark: The internal amp on the TBS is pretty loud but there is no manual volume adjustment
so I like the option of louder sounds and volume with amps. Here is a link to the 10x2 amp.
(the amps need a little step up to 12volts) which are around $5 or so.
Oh the programming cable..Yes! That is the fun part and also necessary to download and make sound files.
If you get the TBS you can download for free any of the files on the Benedini site plus I have a two good Sherman/Pershings I just made:)

Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Oh I see the 3 watt amp is on the Benedini website. I got my amp though Dan then found similar or slightly more powerful ones for a few different tanks. Or you could try the TBS on it's own just to see how loud it is with a good speaker then add one later if you want.
To hook up the TBS to a typical small amp like Dan provides( I fine 7-10 watts is plenty loud for me) You just run the signal (top pin on TBS) to the amp input(s) signal wire is all that is needed as the amps are grounded. If you want to do the two speakers from TBS to the amp you just split the TBA single wire to both AMP inputs. A good thing buying it all though Dan is that he will set it up anyway you want and is great for follow up much like Ian with the IBU. He actually worked with Tom Benedini to get the DBC/RX 18 to interface with the TBS.
Also quite a few guys on the site have the TBS/Clark set up!
Downloading sound files is super easy as is tweaking and adjusting them. Making your own and adjusting them is easy to using a program like Audacity. The trickiest part is making a good full engine sound set!
P.S. No rush but if you can can you see if the 480 motors at 1.8 inches/46mm will clear? (looks like they will!)

Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Many thanks for taking the time with all this, it's really helpful info! I'll get in touch with Dan as soon as I'm ready to start on the M36BI, I'm getting quite keen to start now.
I measured the stock Mato motors at around 37mm (length) by 27mm (diameter) which looks like this:

At 46mm length (and given a similar diameter) the Promax motors should fit but only just if they do - as follows;

There doesn't appear a great deal of space left for the motor power connections, suppressor, etc, so it might be a squeeze to say the least.

Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
The 400's are 1.5 but it looks to the the 480's should fit based on that measurement.
Yes let me know when you start digging into the TBS stuff!

Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Load the TBS up with good sound file..make as big an airtight speaker box that will fit for the FRS 8 and with or without the amp I think you will be wowed by the sound

Re: M36B1 Tank Destroyer question
Anybody set up their M36B1 with TBS or IBU3 and run it?
Curious how the running reviews are! I ordered on without electronics and plan on 480 motors, TBS and TARR in there. Got two good sound files also if anybody wants to try them at some point. Radial engine which wasn't used I believe but it really sounds good and the Pershing Ford engine.
