The Chi Nu and the Firefly together

some rough comparison shots with a tape rule

Firefly's barrel was too long ...had to set it to the side for the shot :haha:

As you can see....the measurement between the sprockets are about the same :shifty:

This is the reason I find "building" these models are a good thing to do...as there is a build documenting the build of the Chi Nu...the guy cut the hull in half to narrow it....kept thinking about that...as I really didn't think the tank is all that narrow....It is narrow...but not the main hull...it's the fenders and tracks that make the difference....it's kind of an optical illusion ....the tank is actually extended from the normal Chi Ha configuration...so it only appears to be narrower than normal tanks...but as you can see...it's pretty darn close to the width of the firefly...and just a tad shorter in length ...which would bring to about the length of a normal Sherman :D

PS. Research can be fun

Coming up ...

Bought this kit because I thought it would be an easy conversion....turns out it isn't practical on what is available with 1/16...this is also a bad version..the casting is ok...but the quality of the plastic isn't...has a full interior and three figures....useless for me...and the way this kit is made ...having the interior accessible is almost too troublesome to do...the upper hull just doesn't sit right...so if you are going to burn your dollars on one of these...just get the Tamiya or a different brand that has a pre molded full upper hull..;)

Really enjoying the girls und panzer journey :D
This is the reason I gave that tank a thought Kiaser..

.Being as I already have the Oarai School's Stug III in the works already...thought it might have been cool to have that one as well...it's gunner was an old classmate of the gunner in the Stug...in the match with Anzio..they went head to head ending in a dead heat between the two....Have to admit..it isn't the prettiest tank...but darn...I don't think even the Wizard we know as Woz and his Magical 3d printer could pull that one off...the transfer case area is a little too tricky I think ;)

ALPHA

PS. The thing about Girls und Panzer is ...there is a lot of unusual tanks used :D

Mating the upper superstructure to the assembly was the way to go with this kit....once it was solidly in place things aligned themselves pretty well...a lot had to be taken in consideration because of the poor quality of the plastic....In places where you need flex there was none...and in places where didn't need flex there was too much....like the traverse mount for the main gun...if the interior was done on this kit...the gun would probably constantly fall into the tank :lolno: ....with the superstructure solidly mounted...you can put a brace under the lower mount ..extending down to the floor of the hull...immobilizing the mount by eradicating the flex
Pretty amazed nothing got lost :/ .....parts fell off while assembling...even with a safety box under...there were times where the part did that tiddly wink thing and just bounce out of the box onto the floor where it would disappear into the tiny parts Twilight Zone :O ....luckily only one fatal loss....one grab handle  ...which is why they are replaced by brass (can't do one without doing the other) :lolno:
The Tracks are great! VINYL not rubber! easy to put on and take off...and they don't add stress to the structure....It's sad that there is no way to motorize this...as all the wheels as well as suspension move due to the nice attention paid to the design...you just cannot mess up
Summation of the build( 5 stars max)
Ease of Assembly 3 stars
Plastic Quality 2 stars
Attention to detail 4 stars
Mold Flash 4 stars
Box Art :/
Eye Strain level 5+++++++++++
Fun Level 5 stars

Overall....ending with a decent result :D

Was going to work on m1 today but to bloody hot Alpha :'(, the Planet gone nuts just walking outside you get hit by a massive hair dryer on steroids :haha:
I know where you're coming from Kiaser...it was like that here for the last two months...pretty unbearable at times...picked up a UV umbrella and a mission towel to help keep things cool when outdoors ....The mission towel helped a lot both indoors and out ;) ...Thing was ...working on the M1 helped keep the mind off the heat ;)

Kiaser wrote:8O that was quick looks good the plastics is a funny colour Alpha :O and you have done a top job I can not see any finger glue marks :D .
Yeah...apparently this is an old kit...I'm not sure Italere still uses this mix...but I do remember back in the day...this rather translucent stuff wasn't good to work with...with regular model glue it would just melt ...it's a strange mix...it has a lot of flex...but at times is very brittle...when the fenders went on..and the attempt was made to mate the superstructure to the lower with them ...one of the guide wheel mounts just snapped off and disappeared ...Even the fast setting glue I use has a strange effect on it

Yeah no finger marks on the tank...but plenty of residual glue still lingers on me fingers Image.....Image
I wish Sir , The only thing on my mind is ice as I attempted to do some painting but the moisture issue was a problem and that was myself in sweat :haha: :haha: very hard to control the water works dripping all over the tank business :/ I swear that it was drying before it hit the job now it looks like a powder coat :/
You have to get one of these Kiaser
Image
you wet it...wring it dry...whip it around in the air...and when you put it on...feels like an ice pack without the weight or discomfort ...it drops your body temperature pretty drastically...I was a skeptic...it works!

The cooling lasts for about four hours...then you take it off and whip it in the air again..and before you know it is cool again Image

I must say ALPHA you have hit the 1/35 scale in a big way ??? I am tempted to send you a mystery 1/35 for Christmas :D .
Hey! there's a reason to the method lol...trying to do them so I don't have to store them Image....Actually they are much easier to deal with once built...this Carro is tiny...the box is ten times the size of the built tank Image...Thanks for the Crimbo thought...but I hope by Christmas...I will have exhausted the supply of 1/35ths so I can get back to 1/16th...they are so much easier on the eyes Image

If I can figure out how to translate this to a 1/16th RC...I might try to do it...just because even in all it's uglyness...it's a very cool tank
