Re: KV-1 metal upgrades

Have tried to familiarise myself with how an airbrush works and I think I have a tiny idea now :)
Tested the colours I want to use on the KV-1 on a 40K tank and the trusty old test hull. Any advice before I go on??

Started out by doing some pre-shading with a dark brown, followed by the green.

Very nice choice of colors Arnie  ....they compliment each other very well....which brush did you use the gravity or siphon feed? :shifty:

Have tried both out, but like the siphon, since it have a bigger nozzle.

They both came with the compressor, so I assume they are the same brand, but havent tried to "mix the parts"

What would be the benefit of this??

Well when I saw the photo of your haul...I thought they might have been the same ....being that they are different...if the parts can be interchanged...it opens the door for you if you are going to do fine work...as you might guess...I prefer siphon feed as well...mostly because I can make color changes easier ...so say you were doing something like your P IV ....if you used the finer set up...not only would those lines be more possible ...but if you have other bottles or even that color cup that came with the siphon feed...you could make changes very fast...without having to clean the entire gun ;)

Ahh, well I might give that a try :) Thanks for the tip :)

For now, I have tried my hand at giving the KV-1 some base colour.

The colours look a bit weird in the light. Will try and take some new ones tomorrow when there is some more clear light out.
I kinda like it, but I am thinking about giving it some washes with the airbrush... Pro/cons to this??

Looks like it's been traveling in some dust ...I like it so far :D

Yes you can do washes with an airbrush....you could use either of the airbrush tips you have....you can do a overall spraying (big tip about 12 in or further) with highly diluted color and let the pigments settle to where you like....or you can do a fine line with the fine tip (close...real close to the surface you are addressing) and diluted color and chase all the lines bolts etc
No real pros and cons to it...it just takes a little time and practice (Trigger control is important ) to get the effect you want ;) I have other tricks...but I've found it isn't too good to be open with those things lol ...so try this first ...if you don't get the result you want...I can tell you a little more in a PM ;)

Had thought about just doing an overall spray-wash, but wasnt sure if I would ruin evertything. But highly dilluted wash it is (will use the test hull first though ;) )

Btw, Do you ever sleep Alpha?? :P

Oh, and I want to add some mudd and splatter to it, so thought the dust like undertones would make it nicely as dried mudd.
