I am knocking out the punch list on the little stuff in the front end. I modified the stock HL front lights, drilled out the armor and mounted it all up. I had to improvise on the back of the lamp assembly to cover the leads after resoldering the connections. After that, I made the auxiliary rack for the front armor.

Up on top of the turret, I added the ends of the hydraulic cylinders and completed all the welds around the perimeter of the weights in the back. I added the additional lift hook in front of the commanders hatch. I had to replace the radio antennae mount that I hastily removed earlier. :) My daughter thought the commander needed a pet. So I figured he may make a great machine gunner. You can also see that I finished up the rear access handles on the deck. I just used some brass rod and styrene round that I drilled for the brass. Then I clued down the very short sections and filled the tube with a resin.

The travel lock was tackled this eve, by simply cutting into a few pieces and adding a center section that was fabbed from miscellaneous combinations of styrene stock. I drilled and brass pinned all of the connections where ever I could on the entire process as well as these extensions. I had to mount it all up and glue it together simultaneously, in order to get it to work with cross brace. I may cut it apart down the road and bore out the sides of the armature and put small screws in it so it can be removed if desired.

A couple of gratuitous glamor shots.

Good Evening,
Pale, this is extremely detailed and intricate work. Great job on everything but particularly the headlights and the barrel travel lock. Getting close to paint, it looks like.

Painless

Thanks Painless,
I am getting closer, for sure. But I am undecided as to how far I should take this build and still have able to buzz around in the gaming and not be fragile. I have some work on the boxes and rear fenders yet. I would say maybe over the weekend, finally have most of the work done prior to paint.

I forgot to mention, I bought a few MAKO boards from Michael C today. One for this build and my Tiger.

Good Morning,
I hear you on the detail. I was on the edge of buying some brass tow hooks for the Sherman. They were drilled out with a miniature bar that you push through to secure to the tow mounts. Beautiful lost casting work but then the realization that at least one of them was destined to be lost in the grass hit me and I knew that I had taken the detailing far enough. Like you, I run my tanks outside when the weather permits. I've lost plenty of tow hooks and once, a track return roller off of my Pershing. So I'll dress up the tools and stowage a little and get them ready to mount but yeah, I think I'll be painting this weekend as well. Mako boards? Sounds sweet. You'll have to report on their performance. I'm thinking IBU-2 for the KV-2 but it's early days yet for that one. I could be swayed. ;o)
warm regards,
Painless

The price was right on the Mako set up. I figured it would be worth giving them a shot. I will let you know.
