I only remember taking one reflection hit from you when we were teamed, I also remember you doing the same thing to a Tamiya at the start line...

Well, I am back at it....the work bench is a mess as you can see...
started working on the turret again....I still hate making round things!
working on the parascope mounts....
and while things are drying, I decided I needed a bit more to the gun shield
and more work on the parascopes...
and more waiting and drying....noticed the tank was sitting on the ground so I reclocked the springs...
gun mounted on the turret and the parascopes on....not sure if I like them
and I still have so much work to do....*sigh*

Spent more time on the fender armor today...the hard part is to make the sides match....what I did with the front and rear make one side so I liked it, cut it off and make copies for the other side....here is the front...
now for the rear, it seemed to be a angled flat plate, here it is compared to the panzertrarts picks...
just comparing it to the idler wheel for hight....I noticed there is a rear panel/fender I have to add from the rear....again panzertracts pic..
see the holes?
Now to this point I have just been making the frame of the fenders, these things are going to be removable. They are also going to be tough as I am going to be fighting this thing( this means its going to bump into stuff).....So far the framing is just tacked onto the hull so I can pop these things off....at this point I am thinking about inserting panels and screwing them on from the inside...2 or 3 bolts a side. I am also thinking about using some shoe goo to reinforce the joints.....thats it for now....

Its the build that would not end!!!!....today I am working on the fender armor again.....now to make them removable....
found some nice hardware that solves some problems.....
and the mounting plates...
and the bolts installed
now to add some flex into the whole mess.....shoe goo around all the joints...
while that mess is all drying up, time to work on tow loops.....some plastic rod, a candle.
and the final result is a bucket of fail....
dam things have to fit on these.....have to come up with something else...
well, the glue is dry....some gental pulling and prying and here are the fender frames....
while I am figureing out the tow loops, I have to figure out the best way to skin and detail then frames......later...

Well, trying to put the fenders to bed...here is what I am trying to get to....
the steel looks really rough in some of the pics of the fenders, I do not think it was rust, I think it was the rolling process that was being used at the time....so I started by coating the fenders with solvent glue and then hitting them with a tooth brush to loose that styrene look...
Not good enough IMO, it looks fine as it sits but it is going to have to show through several coats of paint so after a coat of Riddle can flat black I re did the solvent and tooth brush....and added another coat of flat black...
I have to say that I am really happy with the finish....The rest of the tank is going to get something similar after some more detailing....
The hull is 60 to 70% done....the turret is about 40% done, the hatches, para scopes, vent fans and rain shield for the gun are really going to be a challange....

Next post......the turret....I love Chris's work but the turret is a mess....first issue, the vent fans. Chris has the openings almost the same size as the hatches.....not sure why, nothing I see matches up with that....so I seal up the holes...there is also a comparo with the king tiger vent fans...
next, the hatches fit flush into the turret top....nothing I see of the maus turret matches this...so I rounded the edges and put an insert around the hatches to raze them up...
I have the heng long porshe turret vent fan cover and a cover from the torro all metal detail kit....they do not match...
Since I have 2 vent fans, they need to match....many of the maus pics show a diffenent vent fan but since this tan was supose to be the "tiger maus"( using as many of the king tiger parts as possible) I chose to use the king tiger vent fans.......to get the drill patern, I drilled out the HL part and then drilled some cover peaces...
Super storm Sandy pays up....went running today....found some light weight alloy cable for holding up telaphone / cable lines.....unwound it and started to try diffenent ways to bend it...
None of the maus pics show lifting loops on the turret( in the field, crews would need some way to lift the turret off the tanks).....the problem is the maus II turret was supose to weigh 35 tons...the king tiger turret was supose to weigh 13.5 tons...on the right, is a king tiger lifting loop...on the right is what I thinkthe tiger maus loop might look like...
much to do...
