Well after my disappointment with the CTC printer I decided to put all the goodies I bought on my reliable old Creality, here are a few of the very useful upgrades

Large level adjustment wheels

A fantastic upgrade was the aluminium dual gear extruder

This has really improved print quality once I had changed the feed rate to 105%. Much cleaner crisper prints

and lastly the micro sd to sd extension, I got really fed up with the micro sd cards pinging across the room and getting lost when I took them out of the reader.

I also did a full service and tune up and tightened all the roller adjustments, the only other upgrade planned is a replacement borosilicate glass as the one on the printer has a very minute bow in it which is making it difficult to properly level the print bed.

Onwards and upwards

Found a solution to the print bed distortion problem. It seems that when cold the glass is perfectly flat, BUT when the bed is heated, it distorts slightly creating a Hump in the middle of the bed which means that I can never get a level bed for printing.

SO I experimented with inserting a couple of layers of tin foil on each corner of the bed between the heated plate and the glass bed to slightly raise the two ends of the bed so that when the bed heats up, the centre of the bed just touches the plate and I get a flat print bed - SIMPLES!

No need for a new bed which would almost certainly have experienced the same problem.

We owe so much to McGiver! :haha: :haha: :D

What size nozzle are you going to use?

I put a 0.8mm on my s5, makes a huge difference to print times.

Hi Woz,
I’ll give 0.8 a try, I’m desperate to open the box & get it built & running but the guys doing my cellar are still digging, so I’m a few weeks away yet.
Cheers

Mr Alwyn turner did you do the aluminium dual gear extruder in isolation?
And the 105% feed rate , was that with PLA ?
Cheers.
