Having got the rc2hl adaptor. In my experience had problem and expense finding aworking radio combi. This down to my lack of experience with hobby Radios.

I would say this taigen option is great as removes that hassel and isn't too expensive (plus expect will further drop in price). But does have the draw back of more expensive to replace if you fry the electronics (something I do frequently :S ) so pro & cons to both options in my opinion.

Taigen have just posted some videos of the new 2.4GHz system in operation on Youku -

1. BB, full function -

2. IR, full function -

3. IR, track recoil disabled -

4. BB, track recoil disabled -

Thanks Steve for the information ...
It's exactly as I feared ; the sound of the main gun and the track recoil are tied together like on the RX-18 and RX-14 ...Disabling the the track recoil while keeping the sound will require an external device ... >:< >:<

I just installed my one today, usual great service by WDM's, and i am very impressed by the range and by how responsive it is now, not the full speed or off that i found with the rx18.
Dunno if torro proffesional king tiger's weight was fault, as is fine in lighter taigen full metal option tiger1.
Track recoil is annoying, but i can live with that for much better driving of kitty.

I've just added mine to a Taigen Panzer IV - and the new unit with the fan means there isn't enough room to site the new unit anywhere other than where the old RX-18 came out. This means the BB turret strikes the new board when the turret turns past 90 degrees on the side the board is located (Right Hand side with tank facing forward). lLternate siting is not possible within the current lower chassis due to turret motor and smoke unit at one end and the drive motors at the other. Current factory wiring is also insufficient to allow much movement/relocation options. The gap on the left hand side is not wide enough for the new board to fit. :(
Interim solution I am trialling is to pop the fan unit off, and whilst leaving it connected turn it through 45 degrees allowing the turret to slip over it. You have to site the new board tight down onto the smoker switch. There is still some contact but it works (for now). Not sure if reduced fan function will lead to any issues but we shall see. Only other solution appears radical adjustment of internals and battery compartment which is a no goer for me.
Function seems better, more responsive and sound is far improved. No aerial means neater look. Simple plug & play (if the tweak wasn't needed). Seems the Panzer IV (and I presume Panzer III) are a little small on the onside for the new wider unit with the fan on the side. However, despite this I have ordered another for my KV-1 as I do like the improvement. More space in that chassis body. :D
If anyone has a better solution to the Panzer IV issue please let me know.

Well, maybe I spoke too soon. Having run it on the dining room table up on a block to prevent escape all seemed fine, but extended floor trials have highlighted the following sound issue. At a standstill or slow speed the full engine running sound is fine, but at high speed the sound cuts out completely. The old "idle engine" sound after start up and whilst stationary seems to be gone completely, although occasionally with the slightest touch on handset it does appear before switching to full engine running. Having swopped batteries and had various runs I am stumped as to why I only have sound at slow speeds.

madmonk25, do you have the high intensity flash or just the stock HL flash LED ? When I upgraded my stock IR HL Jadgpanther with the new 2.4Ghz system I never got the stock HL flash to work with the sound and track recoil. I tried different 2.4Ghz sets and have the same problem, but when I put the RX-18 back in it works perfectly.

I ended up replacing the stock HL flash with the high intensity flash and it works fine now. I have a feeling that somehow the new 2.4 Ghz system is not giving the right voltage to the recoil motor and the connection was not made to produce the sound and the recoil. The reason is that I noticed the recoil position of the strike pin is different between the RX-18 and the Taigen controller.

I have converted 5 out of 12 tanks to the new 2.4Ghz system now and is working on the rest.

Second digital unit installed in KV-1 and performs same as the Panzer IV, i.e at full speed all you can hear are track/wheel noise and not the engine sounds. When you stop it is all the more noticeable when the engine noise cuts in as the new speakers are so much louder. All in all I still love the smoother controls and no aerial and will eventually put them in all my other tanks.

I've just fitted this system to my HL KT and had no issues what so ever ;)
