Cheers mate 8| .
Thought I would have a diagnosis by now, perhaps it wasn't as easy as I thought :D .
Maybe an image of another newer growth on the Sherman will help determine the cause/reason;

Anyhow the wheels are lovely, I think they are a closer size (by eye) to real though calculation says different. I have wanted these done for a while but the brain didn't click. YHR showed it could be done oh his Sherms so I decided to pester Nick :haha: :D . Had to find a donor wheel from the 21st C Sherman, annoyingly I sold one a few months back so asked the buyer (panzer3) to send me a spare from it and he kindly obliged.
Cheers

You are building an M4 with deep water fording stacks as used on D-Day in Europe and the Pacific islands. Are you going to build the rest of the stacks or leave them off in the combat configuration? I made mine so that I can take them off if I want to. I am still doing some detail work on my USMC Sherman, but she should be done sometime this week.

Lol you get around Herman! More or less correct, they have been added and fabricated in such a way that they can be removed easily leaving no trace (see pics). I was going to make them as is but liked the look of the stack removed so made that possible too. The Grizzlys in the scene mine is moddled on have them as they were dipicting 1st Armoured tanks coming up from Omaha, my deep wading trunks are a rough copy of them so not strictly 'perfect'.

Excellent build. I truly like the two stage system of your stacks. Mine are not strictly built according to the later plans either, but Marines did a lot of things differently than the other services.

Herman your Sherman is fantastic, really like the additions to the hull of the USM tanks, I may follow on the HBO miniseries based tanks and do one from 'The Pacific'.
Taken a few days and different mixtures of paint to match the colour of the Sherm, then the bloody varnish darkens the colour anyway :/ . Yeah so this about it for now, got the obvious weathering planned perhaps with some clumps of sand :D

Your build is excellent! Mine is of one of the early 105mm versions.

Thanks Herm :D .
Anyhow have had some issues with airbrush sputtering paint so the dusty cover on the rear funnel got a bit heavy trying to cover the patchy paint. The clumps of sand at the bottom went odd 'cos the glue I used to attach made the pigment very dark, painting over created 'tide marks' so had to be expanded, looks more like mud now :/ .

(been wanting to do a Kilroy for ages :D )

And the other thing I have been spending the odd 5 minutes on around work is;

Held on by a screw at the back of the trans cover, the screw hole was there from the start so I had planned this 8|
Hope to paint it soon and maybe get the wheels sorted too :O :S
