Without trying them all (not something I want to do) recommendations will be the way to go.
If the red 390,s that Meter Rat uses will actually fit in the HAYA Centurion they and the Mabuchi RS380SH that ongbenghul has used would be two solid recommendations to try......along with the 380 types that Tamiya use as I know how well they work in my Tamiya Leopard 2A6 .
Finding a pair of Tamiya 380 motors would be nice - except that they may come with Tamiya spare part prices.....!

The Tamiya Leopard uses twin 540’s which is why it runs so well.

Those HL red 390 motor wouldn't fit. Tamiya has a series of Sport Tuned 380 motor. Will be interesting to try because I saw that they are rated at 24900 rpm at no load with 7.2V
HAYA Centurion Mk3. 540 Motors Won’t Fit.
Good point - no room for a pair of 540 motors in the HAYA Cent.
I have ordered a pair of Mabuchi RS380SH motors so I will fit them when they arrive and hope they will make a noticeable improvement - but I will need to pull the pinions off of the original motors as the RS380SH motors do not come with any.
An alternative source of spare Heng Long pinions would probably be a better bet ?

I will start with the Mabuchi RS380SH that you are using as it sounds like they have made a significant difference to improve the performance of your HAYA Centurion.
Did you refit the original pinion gears or did you find and fit replacement pinions?

FYI. Zooma asked for an alternative source for red motors. Andrew Haya, carries the red motors, in stock. On sale. Might be worth giving him a call. I know ongbenghui said they don’t fit, and they required a bit of jiggery pokery to fit the Challenger, with about a mm to spare.

I found out earlier this afternoon that HAYA had these same red motors for sale and decided to order a pair of them from Andrew after checking with him that they would fit.
They are a tight fit, but his video makes this clear so I am happy to give it a go - and I will also have a pair of Mabuchi RS380SH motors arriving as a back- up - once I have found a pair of pinions to fit them.
Thanks for letting me know about these red motors - I never gave up on the idea and reasoned that if they would fit your Heng Long Challenger and T72 tanks then they should fit my HAYA Centurion too
Your reason for fitting them to your Heng Long tanks is the same as my reason for buying them - my HAYA Centurion has the same pulling power as yours!

Hi hi, the picture that you posted is a picture of the chieftain. Haya Chieftain can be fitted with 390, but unfortunately, Haya Centurion can't. Happy be to proven wrong though, because I hope to put a 390 into Centurion too.zooma wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 10:57 pm Thanks Meter Rat,

Yes, I reuse the pinion gears. You need a little Pinion Gear removal tool to help you to remove the gear. It is quite useful if you need to experiment with different motors.zooma wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:06 am Hi ongbenhui,

I have fitted 540 Type Motors in the HAYA chieftain,
but not with the original gearboxes ...
The loudspeaker housing is an integral part of the chassis and provides good reinforcement and torsional rigidity.
The control electronics (Open Panzer TCB) are installed in the turret.
