[D-DAY] My Tiger 1 Normandy build
Re: [D-DAY] My Tiger 1 Normandy build
Thanks Guido, I'll check it out. Meanwhile I found this video on making realistic ballistic damage

Re: [D-DAY] My Tiger 1 Normandy build
Progress report:
Today I received the new pressure control switch for the airbrush compressor and fitted and wired it up, also properly sorting out the dangerous wiring (see my post in general chat).
I then set out to add battle damage using the drill and model filler method shown in the video I posted. Subject to detail painting I'm really happy with the results.
I've also reinforced the top deck by gluing in 1mm plastic card which has reduced the flex and hopefully the turret will rotate smoothly.
And the final and probably trickiest step was the turret numbers. I found a font online, printed the numbers on paper then cut out the centre to make a stencil. I sprayed the background in white. The really tricky bit will be adding in the red centres by hand. Not looking forward to that! My only excuse is that seeing pics of the real 334 the numbers were very, let's say, rustic
It's getting there! Next major step us a "dirty wash" to bring out the details. And the tracks need a lot more rust.

So the white will be the outline, and I will paint red inside

Re: [D-DAY] My Tiger 1 Normandy build
If I understood correctly you are modelling 3rd Company 101st? In that instance the numbers would be blue on yellow, red on white was only for 2nd company.
Re: [D-DAY] My Tiger 1 Normandy build
Making progress. I've infilled the red on the turret numbers by hand this morning. What a tricky job that was! Zimmerit is a very uneven surface to paint on.
I've started detail painting. The battle damage is painted in with mid grey to simulate the exposed steel, and I'll add light touches to represent broken Zimmerit edges and some rust and explosion effects later.
The next major step will be a satin seal coat before weather washing.

That's interesting and I didn't know the different colours. I've seen photos of the original and it seems when it was abandoned the turret numbers were just white.
I think now it's done I'll leave it

An earlier picture of 334 clearly shows the 2 tone colour in the turret number:

Probably shown better here on its sister tank 331:
