4th and 6th Armored were the 2 principle divisions (others came and went) assigned to 3rd army. Don't know much about the 6th but the 4th were a mixed bag as far as I can tell, 8th tank battalion were hot on painting out the stars the 35th and 37th were less fussy.

Don’t know anything about Shermans, but this looks like another build that is getting close to the finish line.

It looks great, I love the contrast of the cast turret and the armor plates !

I'm no U.S. armor guy so this is a cool bit of info. Makes sense. That big white star must've been a cinch to home in on.

I've got a picture in one of my Sherman books with an M25 (Dragon Wagon tractor) with two holes in the side (one through the star). Worse still, the rounds went through the added armor to protect the sponson mounted ammo bin and the hull too. So yeah, I think the bright star on a dark back ground was an effective aiming point.

Cut out some decals from a spare kit and used them as a stencil for the black star on the turrets.

White stars applied using the decals on the armour panels.

You said stencil? You used the decal star to cut out the stencil? Came out great! What was used as the stencil paper/tape...?

Just the outline left over from the decal sheet, nothing else apart from a steady hand and some nice brushes

It’s coming along nicely, all that sweating and swearing with the turret has paid off!

A lot of times I will scan the decal sheet, print a copy out, and then cut my own stencil from my paper copy. Of course that only works with really simple decals like stars, slogans, etc.
