Re: DUKW Scratch Builds
A update aimed at anyone planning on or is using the above axles:
On a test drive today working out a brace of batteries giving a longer run time, a wheel came off. I just finished working on maintenance. Each axle has 3 grub/set screws. Most of them were loose. I recommend tightening all of them. I loosened one of the hub screws and pressed it tight against the outer bearings. Then I loosened the crown/ring gear and moved it snug against the pinion and re-tightened the screw. You can see the screws in the first picture two post above.
I still think these are stellar axles and in my case of a heavy DUKW, necessary.

Re: DUKW Scratch Builds
I came up with a temporary solution to the tires/tyres for the duck. They are not perfect, but they help.

Belt is running downward and the drill is running opposite. Light pressure keeps from melting or burning rubber. Could be done on sand paper but would take a whole lot longer. Each one took 2-3 minutes.

A little deck work.

This is the goofy windshield protector I mentioned earlier on the first 2000 DUKWs.

Re: DUKW Scratch Builds
Searched high and low for a suitable bucket to make headlamps, however....

I did leave the tube open for future LED installation. Have to figure out how to operate them from the Flysky receiver.

The blackout lamp on the right side of the picture is a Tamiya piece from the M4 kit just to give scale to the headlight.

As an option to magnets holding the hood on, I went with a folding forward winch hawse as a latch.

I would love to humbly state that I get it all from my dear older brother.....Herr Dr. Professor wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 8:43 pmEgad, man! You are amazingly resourceful. Well... you do have some useful machine tools, useful because you know how to use them.

.......but we all know that would be too unbelievable.
I enjoy coming up with solutions. Waiting on ordered parts takes much longer than finding something on hand and manipulating it a bit. I'm not nearly as able to build such realistic, artistic, scale, detailed, museum worthy (the list goes on and on), as many of the builders here. But I have had fun building the rigs I have thus far. And if it's a bit out of the box, all the better.

That’s great work
For the lights, you can get cheap controllers from all the usual Chinese sites , eBay or Amazon, that just plug into a spare channel on the receiver and have switchable outputs you can connect the LED’s to. When the channel is switched it changes lights off and on in groups - you can use a button or a switch to do this on the Tx.
