I got impatient and decided to get a jagdepanther set of Taigen metal gearboxes from Welshdragon and they arrived today. Needless to say I have done nothing else today but fiddle with the gearboxes and build the small platform in the rear of the chassis to accomodate the gearboxes at the right height. For those building the chassis, the platform needs to be 11mm above the chassis floor to get the sprocket to the correct height.

Having organised that I then found that my sprocket design needed to be modified to fit on the 58mm shaft in order to position the sprocket to line up with the wheels, so a swift bit of redesign of the sprocket, 150 minute print job later, and there we are.

Note the gearbox has to be right up against the chassis wall

and it was also necessary to cut a hole in my bracing piece to fit the gearbox almost up against the rear of the chassis

Now I just have to fasten the gearbox down and do the other side.

The back of the lower hull is going to have to wait until the upper hull is ready so that I can mate the two.

Alwyn I am sure everyone else will agree. But you are a true inspiration for seasoned, new and like me returning to the hobby people.
Your work is truly outstanding and I just love the vision.
I look at yous builds and ask myself what is he going to come up with next.

For me this tank I think was the first tank I remember seeing on an old Top Gear when I was a little kid driving over and 'blowing up' and old Yugo 45. Certainly looks the same and I do apologise if it isn't the right mk.
But it is the name which does it for me. This is a proper cool tank.

Great work and keep up the good work

Thanks again guys for the good words, they are a great encouragement. I've started work on the upper hull with two track covers 413mmx55mm with the front notched out by 122mmx9mm for the front glacis. There is a 1.5mm lip on the inside underneath to correctly locate the track sides against the lower hull and some square tube to hold the sides level and in position, The front glacis is 132mm long and 126mm wide rear, 114mm wide at the front. Just designing and printing the glacis sides as they are angled and need to lift the front of the track cover to clear the idler. The front glacis will be covered by a 3d printed proper glacis but this is just to get a solid frame to work with.

Finally got the glacis side done, it took five attempts to get all the angles right! 8O

Talk about trial and mainly error !

That's just a practice for the main glacis design and print, that's going to be much more fun.
