Just to say that I have pretty much decided that the Comet won't have elevation, I never use it, and makes things a lot easier in a cramped turret. Quite apart from which when using a board that requires a left stick up to fire movement, one inevitably ends up with the barrel being jogged upwards every time one fires the gun. Disabling the elevation avoids this, I have run the elevation wires through a block connector on some of my tanks so that they are blanked off, but can be reconnected if need be in the future.

Well, the .016" brass strip arrived and I started trying to build my jerrycan rack. As soon as I tried to bend it into shape, I realised that what I bought was way too thick. I found it impossible to get a clean sharp angle. It was the thinnest that I could find on ebay. Thinner stuff is available, presumably for photo-etching, but it all seems to come in larger sheets, which I have no way of cutting down. Anyway, I have persevered. I just used what I bought for the base. All the other parts are from left over photo etch sprue, which is 0.1- 0.2 mm thick as opposed to the 0.5 mm that I bought. If someone can give me a source of thin brass strip in various widths for future reference, that would be great.

This is what I finished up with. Not even approaching the quality of work that features on here - my excuse is that it was scratch built in the field by the tank crew, who weren't very good at cutting and welding. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

On the basis that I have had a go at soldering tiny thin strips of brass, and made a dogs breakfast of it, I think I can say with some confidence that you have made an excellent job of that rack. Once painted the joints will disappear.

The jerrycan rack has now had some paint applied. I figured that with the cans rattling around and being continually lifted in and out, the paintwork would suffer a bit, so I've had a go at distressing it. Hopefully, it's not overdone. Apart from fixing it to the rear of the tank, it is now complete. I could not find the brass bolts I thought I had, so that will have to wait till more stock arrives on Tuesday, with a bit of luck.

Mr Silversurfer very nice work. If you felt the urge to construct more metal bits I'm sure many like myself would line up to buy them. I've never had the patience or skills to build something like that
