Cheers for following along lads, unfortunately I've got no visible progress to share yet. I'm in the process of figuring out the gun mechanicals, but I haven't been well enough to spend time at the bench lately. Once that's sorted though, it'll be on to the electronics and grabbing some video of the beast in action.

With a gun this big, you don't need to be quiet. 8)

Close, but not quite. That's an ISU-152 (based on the IS-2), and I'm building an SU-152 (based on the KV-1S). Same gun, but differently-shaped casemates; the ISU is squarer because the IS hull is narrower. The Soviets moved from the SU to the ISU when they phased out KV-1 tank production in favour of the IS-2.

You are the expert here. Thanks for the clarification :D

It took nearly two months to get here, but the gun is mounted with all-new mechanical systems. It's been hard to get enough time and energy to work on this lately as my health continues to decline, but I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out.

Much better than relying on linkages, gears don't have the same kind of slop or flex. The only part I ended up reusing from the old system is the bottom traverse trunnion, everything else was done from scratch. I feel like this is the sort of thing that benefits from being 3D printed, there's only so much I can do with simple hand tools. It all works, though!

Now that I know how far into the casemate and hull the gun protrudes, I can start figuring out how to mount all of the electronics. I've got a few special ideas I want to try out, so hopefully progress will start picking up again soon.

This looks fantastic. Where do all the gears come from? Do you have some CAD to share? I don't have a printer myself , but could get help by a friend.
Just watches the video too. That looks really sturdy. Great engineering. That was all scratch build or is there a kit available?
