Thank you, it's been a fun build so far. A little disappointed in all of the plastic pieces for the barrel traverse. I can see possible failures in the future. The plastic elevation arms for one. Also, the gunners site ties into the barrel traverse mechanism and moves as the gun moves so no need for a servo here but I wish it were all metal. They are a different shape than what I'm used to (elevation and traverse arms) and I couldn't find any metal arms that might work. I'm going to make a wish list and forward it on to Bob at ETO Armor when I'm finished.

Panzer iv has a specific upgrade elevation arm.

Is it the kind of thing a printed set would make sturdier ?
If you design the better section and print it, perhaps the bits can be made stronger but easier than metal ?

Maybe so Herman, hadn't thought of that. I've not tried any 3D printed parts. Might be worth a try.

Just a thought, there are print-nerds out there and in here that may be able to deliver the dream so to speak !
I have no idea about the material or potential strength of print product, but I am sure the advice will come from those that do.
The likes of Shapeways should be able to square things away for you.

Good to see someone plunging into the new Tamiya Jagdpanzer IV.

I just spotted it - but what happened to your earlier pics?

The L/70 gun was indeed very long - especially for such a low-slung vehicle. I read in a biography of a driver / gunner on these tanks (who was actually a Canadian of German descent who went to enlist in the Wehrmacht and then returned home at the war's end) that the barrel length was a real problem. Any obstruction had to be given a wide birth and it was not uncommon for the gun to be knocked out of alignment if it hit anything.

I'm not surprised to hear that the stick-on zimmerit is worthless. I have used it on Tamiya's 1/35 scale models where it just about works, but I cannot see it convincing in 1/16...

I enjoy hearing and learning about these WWII tanks. I belong to a veterans club where I live. Plenty of WWII vets still there and even one tanker who was a Sherman driver. I never get tired of his stories. Thank you for your reply.

A little more done. I like the track armor now that it's painted. I don't think I'll leave it on when I drive the tank.
