I really think that NHS Doctors should be instructed to ban any patient suffering with high blood pressure from reading TAMIYA Price Lists. :lolno: :lolno: Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

The real kicker is that you still have to build the damned thing yourself.

I know it will be cheaper in Europe but still, it's alot of money for what is basically a panzer IV with no turret. Considering they both retail at €650 I would have thought that a more sensible starting price.

Won't be buying one at that price but still makes me laugh when uk sellers offer it for almost £900.

Tamiya is Tamiya. Period. Expensive but really good. But there comes a point if you don't have deep pockets and still want a fleet that you have to make a decision...

For example, I can pick up a HL Pz. IV for about $90. Gut it and put in a better gear box $60, metal sprockets, idlers, and tracks $60 (keep the plastic boogies), add a Clark board and IR battle package $125, TARR smoker $30, receiver $15.00 better speaker with amp $25. Then buy a resin L70 kit for $125, servo recoil and elevation $25 For a total of $555. Plus I can sell the turret off for around $30.00 Now of course there would be shipping involved so slap $100 for shipping. Run it with my Turnigy radio which I can control up to 18 different tanks on it so no radio for each tank.

Basically I can build 3 battle ready Pz. IV/L70's for the price of one Tamiya.... :O :O :O

And yes, I have done it. Not 3 but 1 kit... :D

I do like a good tamiya, I have five of them after all. Just shocked by the price of this one. It's more than the type 10.

Indeed they are !
This debate goes on in other model forums (G scale trains for example).

I can afford any or all of the Tamiya kits, but the Taigen (virtually) all metal range is good enough for me, the differences are not significant enough to warrant £600 - £700 spend on each model - not for me anyway.

I do admire the quality of modelling you guys achieve, but in most instances I'm a "cheque book modeller".
On my G scale layout I have built a fair few models, but I don't see myself do full rebuilds or kits in my 1;16 range, but never say never......

Oops, I just did :D
