It still seems unbelievable to me that you guys in the UK aren't allowed any kinds of fire arms at all. I'm not a gun nut by any stretch but why you can't have any is a puzzel to me. What do you do if someone kicks in your door at 3am? Then as if it bad enough that you can't have a fire arms I've been told you can't even have pepper spray or anything else in which to defend yourself.
I just can't seem to wrap my head around this, I grew up with guns in my house as my dad was a cop and he hunted heck all of my family does for generations! Guns are a part of life as I know it and honestly to me I don't understand how you could sleep at night not being able to protect yourself or your family.
Someone kicks in my door at 3am I have my choice of 9mm, .38, .44, .45, 12 gauge, 30.06, .30. My next door neighbor has 3 gun safes he has so many, to me that's a little over kill. All of mine were passed down to me except the .44 revolver and .45 semi automatic 1911.

You remembered me this video:
Dont take too seriously, I dont want to offense anyone.
That is not an UK law, it is an european law, and we dont have weapons, just because we dont need it.
Sometimes I would love to go to shoot somewhere (I used to be a spanish army special's forces soldier and I miss shooting) but I think people is too crazy to have weapons at home.

Michael Moore is a moron, period plain and simple. Freedom of religion is the reason pilgrims left. The pilgrims never gunned anyone down. As for slavery what were the fudal lords but slave owners? Slavery wasn't the invention if the US it had been practiced the world over for thousands of years!
I wasn't trying to offend anyone or their way of life by any means, it's great to want to live in a peaceful world but recent events shows that just because you want peace doesn't mean everyone else does. Police alone can't protect you or your family, again recent events worldwide prove this. The police response time around me can be up to 2 hours...2 HOURS! In 2 hours time imagine what can happen to your family, your kids, your wife, you, nope I'm not going to just sit there and watch as animals take turns passing my daughter's around and I won't apologize to anyone for wanting to protect my family. But I do feel people need proper training for the firearms, I was in the Army and was taught by my family proper respect for firearms.

Just to give an alternate view from the US:
I was born and raised in NYC. The NYC of the 70s, where the movie Taxi Driver was basically a documentary. My brother was FDNY in Harlem at the time where gangs would light fires so they could throw rocks and in some cases shoot at the responders.
I have seen multiple stabbings, mostly in my high school, and have had a handgun pointed in my face twice.
I have never owned and never will own a gun. I have a 93 lbs dog. I sleep fine. My family is safe.
For target shooting, I have two extremely accurate high powered air rifles. For fun, wet have metal replica Thompson and MP40 airlift rifles that we chase each other around with. No one get hurts with either.
In my mind, the only reason for a gun is Zombies...

LOL! I grew up in Baltimore City in the 80's where I was beat up, bullied, was stabbed, had guns put in my face, my mom was car jacked at gun point right outside our house. My dad was drunk at the time so I grabbed his .38 and at the age of 14 chased them off and saved my mom. Yup I shot the dude with the gun, twice and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Have no idea to this day how bad I shot him but there was a decent blood trail for the police to follow when they finally got there. They never did catch him even though my dad was a Baltimore City cop and the police all swore "this will not stand"! What a load of crap! This is why I have guns and don't drink.
I have 4 dogs they let me know when to get my gun.
I live by the sayings "If you want peace prepare for war". Unknown.
"Make yourself sheep and the wolves will eat you". Benjamin Franklin.
I apologize for the tangent, I'll shut up now.

If someone kicks in your door at 3am (and it's not the Police!), then here you would be expected to provide him with a cup of tea, and access to all your prize possessions...maybe even a car to transport them away with afterwards. Chances are the police wouldn't chase him, just in case he hurt himself in a high speed chase.. Woe betide you of you should kick the s**t out of him, as that would impact on his 'human rights' more than his face. 'Self-defence' is a gray area in liberal democracies, where victims of crime have less worth than the perpetrators...more often than not. Even then, hand-wringing liberals will try to find any excuse for appalling behaviour ('Broken home'..'abused as a child'..) to justify quite incredibly light sentences. I came from a broken home, but it doesn't impel me to rob, cheat, mug or abuse other people. European politicians are also pusillanimous, and incapable of dealing with any threat; military or otherwise. Two world wars killed off the best of us (the ones with gonads, anyway..)...'no offence intended' (see...can't even escape the new PC indoctrination).
As for black powder, yes, even harmless 'cap' guns are effectively banned in the UK...although it must be possible to get gunpowder from fireworks for well-intentioned experimentation...i.e. with rc tank cannons.
What's really bizarre about that, though, is that it's perfectly legal to buy peroxide and other chemicals sufficient to blow of buses and trains in London..while this year (In Scotland only) I shall have to get a licence for my Walther air-rifle. I might as well apply for a firearms licence since, it appears, the air rifle one will be just as hard to obtain.
I'm conflicted on the subject of guns. But for busting my ankle, I would have been in Switzerland in January testing out an MP40 (Schmeisser issued to german tank crews)..albeit one chambered for .22 rounds, and also
a competition Glock 34 generation 4. I enjoy well made, well engineered guns..and I especially like handling the ones used in WW2 by my Dad and his brothers. With proper training, and a safe environment, target shooting and gun maintenance really can be fun. But owning and using guns as a right...that I find a little tricky. Essentially, whatever mankind comes up with that once had some benefit (weapons for hunting, for example), and the internet these days can be, and will be, abused by someone... Perhaps even an rc tank will be used in a 'ram raid' or 'hold up' before too long
Now, back to gun smoke..and not the series with James Arness.

Starter pistols in the UK are coloured bright orange, so no-one can mistake them for real weapons!

I've seen a video of a guy the put black powder charges in his King Tiger. It had a really neat effect. I can't find the video anymore though...
