With all that's been said about the cast hulled Firefly...I'm still going to keep an open mind ...If you ask me why..it's because it wasn't an impossibility ...it is a more possible situation that at a repair depot could have done the conversion without it being documented
In other words...who's to say there weren't Fireflies who's engines had failed...and M4a1s that had turret or gun issues....Heck if I were in charge of such a depot...I would change it out regulations or not...what's the worst they could have done back then...send you home to the States

I see a composite and the rest are small hatch welded hull versions, aside from being US business as usual.

..and one variation I'd not noticed in this very pic- one I posted a little earlier, in fact (but less detailed), is that they've not been too careful parking the tanks, judging by the damage to the brace of M22s I've just noticed in the foreground:haha: This suggests to me a parking area full of rejects, or sadly neglected equipment. Pity. However, building a Firefly from an M4A3 base, or even from the M4AI 'Grizzly' setup..as referenced by the laudable General himself,
seems to be valid: the tank equivalent of "funny cars', maybe. or the Lone Ranger with a Buntline special, instead of the 45 peacemaker..

Wow Magman...you sure are finding some nice photos ...this is one rarely seen too...No three piece transmission cover ..no small hatches...very nice find indeed

What it looks like to me 43 is the drivers of the big brother Composite Fireflies went joy riding in those two M22s...and crashed them together
both fenders on the opposing sides of both are pretty seriously damaged...probably to the point where they couldn't put them back in the right spot

And yes...I would Dare say....when it comes to Shermans...You just never know what you might find

Not joyriding tank jocks, General..but a failed experiment in controlling early RC full size tanks...or, a couple of inebriated, purple-heart wearing tankers on R & R, decided to arrange a dodgem session in the park. In any event, the thread has come to the point where any iteration of the Sherman- it seems- can be converted into a Firefly. Thus, I'd like a Sherman fitted with that huge M22 undercarriage, (a la 'Funny Car' hotrod..massive sprockets at the back, tiny at the front), 17-pounder barrel, and painted pink with purple stripes..It would also need a massive exhaust system to announce its presence, along with the multi-horn (playing 'Dixie') from an intercity train...
But it would start out like this:

..a project extended to the redoubtable T34, but when it heard about its new paint job, it buried its barrel in shame..

It saw what had happened to the Sherman:
