Re: New Tiger Build.
Well Jack I would also doubt that all three makers could make the same mistake EXCEPT that the same three makers all mould TWO aerial stowage tubes on the rear quarters of their respective Tiger 1s when even I know it should only be one.
I trust David because he actually researches his subject rather than jumping on a bandwagon which is what these three makers are doing. shaun

Re: New Tiger Build.
I wasn't giving David any crap I was honestly asking that's all. The hatches I have all look like the the one on the first pic however since this would be wrong for a mid production turret I will simply make my own so it will be correct, or rather more correct then the ones I already have.
David I hope you didn't think I was giving you an argument I was trying to get it cleared up that's all. I will re-clock the hatch to its correct 4:30 position that's an easy fix, besides I'm considering opening it up anyway seeing how this turret does not have a BB gun in it nor anything for that matter so I'll be able to make all the bits that go in it, well up to a degree cause you guys know how I run my tanks and I don't want all my hard work to just break.
I may still use my Taigen hatch but use solder to fill the edges to make them have no beveled edge, this may be my best bet. Thoughts?

Re: New Tiger Build.
The problem with Taigan is they are a HL clone, HL is a Tamiya clone. Errors in replication happens and none of the new companies seem to be bothered with fact checking.

Re: New Tiger Build.
Ok so I ground the beveled edges off the hatch and smoothed it all out, now its just a plain disc as I was told it should be.
Then I fixed the 2 dimples above the drivers view port and opened it up. I had to scratch build the top part and the bottom part as both got damaged when I was opening it up. I used a square rod of Plastrux and cut, filed, and sanded them into the proper shape.... or what I hope to God is the proper shape as I used the H/L drivers view block as my guide.

Then it was time to finish joining the 2 upper hulls by making weld lines. I tried the Milliput but I didn't like the effect I was getting, I know its just a matter of me needing more practice so I used what I'm good at.... Modeling putty and I think the welds turned out decent what do you all think? Really difficult to get a decent shot of the weld lines as the focus didn't want to stay on them, I do hope you can see them ok enough to let me know

Re: New Tiger Build.
Also the engine hatch is fitted to the upper now and it opens properly with the latch working to keep it open.
Next I plan to start on the turret and I have a few surprises that when finished will be properly shown in a video, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Re: New Tiger Build.
Took the Tiger outside for a 1st proper run and all I can say is WOW! My other Tigers always had an issue with throwing tracks especially if I tried too tight a turn in deep grass but this one can do 360 spins in grass deeper then it is tall and nothing! It'll even drive up a steep hill at an angle and they stay put, not sure whats so different about this one but I'll take it!
Going to have to look at my IBU2 card as the TARR smoker isn't making much smoke, not sure what the issue is but I think I have to adjust the smoker %. Now I just need to figure out how to do that!
Other then that there isn't much to report just waiting on some small parts to arrive from far off lands as usual with any tank I do cause you guys over seas have all the cool stuff and we have NOTHING over here.

Re: New Tiger Build.
OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG?!?!? I'm SO frustrated with this God damn tank!
So I got the brass side skirts on and made my own mounting pads, used cut straight pins so I can mount them as I can't find nuts and bolts small enough. Once I get them test mounted I see how THICK the front fenders are and realize they need to go in favor of brass ones. A quick trip to the hobby shop for some more brass and some tiny hinges for the side part of the front fender some measuring, cutting, soldering, grinding, re-soldering and TA DA I have some scratch made front fenders that look pretty damn good!
Sure the hinges for the side parts could be smaller but the ones I have are pretty damn little and they don't look too out of place.
Then I try to make the hinges where the damn fenders mount to the tank and my dear Lord I just CAN NOT seem to get these damn things to line up to save my life!
I could only figure how to make the 3 in board ones work as the furthest one out I can't figure how I could make it work. So whatever 3 scratch made brass hinges is better then none I figure, I get the part that mounts to the fender to fit and work perfect but then when I try to cut and drill and file and sand and shape the part that attaches to the body of the tank that the fender would mount to I CAN NOT GET THEM TO LINE UP!!!!
1st one, No problem I can get 1 measured up and cut out and fit just perfect!
2nd one, Tight but I can get it to work with a tad more filing.
3rd one, NOPE! DENIED! SCREW ME! it seems no matter what I do I can not get this damn thing!! Too long, too short, hole in the wrong spot, too wide but then I file it down and the hole doesn't line up!! AAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Had to pack it up for the night before I threw the freeking tank out the window! Its 7:52pm and I started this hinge at 3:00 this afternoon when I got home from work, almost 5 damn hours down the drain! God damn am I MAD!

Which Is why I drink consistently & at times heavily during every stage
Hows this for an idea ?..............................the front fender flaps have been ripped off !
Only half hinges remain

Re: New Tiger Build.
Jack Hi,
Have a good nights sleep then try googling dolls
house accessories, you will find ready made hinges in all sizes and as to small threaded rod and small nuts and washers, in the UK I use
http://www.primeminatures.com
a very speedy service or
http://www.modelfixings.com
and I know that there is at least one company on the East coast USA who does similar products because they were my first providers. Remember GOOGLE is your "FREE" friend
Whenever I have to join something via multiple holes I drill the holes and then put a large dressmakers pin in each hole which ensures everything is aligned and then I loosely fit the nut/bolt in place and move to the next pin and only when all the fixings are in place do I tighten everything,
If you are able to get a piece of soft wood behind the holes you can push the pins through the predrilled holes and into the wood this keeps everything lined up as you put in the bolts/nuts and if all else fails HERMANS remedy is always to be recommended
