KV-1 on the bench

Thanks for that link to Artistic Hobbies here in the US. I ordered the etched metal set for the KV and the steel boxes. That was refreshing to find the stuff here in the states. They seemed very nice to work with as well.

Hey palepainter... you do know those photoetch boxes are "one" only right...so 30 dollars a piece... ...I'm going for the white metal ones from Dave (forgebear)..which cost about the same... but you get three instead of one

Sorry palepainter... I didn't see those listed... little less than Dave... too bad they don't have the hatches...but dang... weren't those photoetch boxes nuts!

I think before I lay that much down for three boxes... I'd buy another tank ... and fabricate those puppies out of a soda can or something

Getting something to work whether by fabrication or purchased kit is the thing, my friends, because all fun building something aside for a moment, When it's done to your individual satisfaction and you turn it on and run it and share it with your pals, speaking strictly for me, I'm 12 years old again and just got the best present in the world. ;o) Apologies as well, no more Hi-jacking from me today. Looking forward to seeing all this heavy Soviet metal being run.

Noodling along this week. I found some plastic tubing in the shop to make a tank for the rear right fender. I filled the holes for the tool box in that section. I also worked over the fenders a little bit more. I used a lighter, heat gun and pliers to do the damage. I also took the small tank on right fender and shaved off the molded brackets and made my own out of brass sheet and RC Plane control rod. I also finished the work on headlight and mounted it. I am waiting on the photo etch upgrade kit to get here before I dig into the rear engine deck vents. I hope to get a little airflow through out the rear of the chassis.

I made a surface out of lacquer thinner and green putty. It works pretty nice for very subtle effect, or thicken it up for heavy casting. Took the dremel to it in a few places as well.

I am now using more references of these things in the field, and most of them suffered bad fender damage from what I have seen in the photos.

Where have guys been relocating their antennae to? I have not found anything on the site.

I have a clark board and 2.4 radio so I don't need an actual antenna but I mounted a fake one in the pod at the front where it should be...

Hey Palepainter... I asked the same question awhile ago here's the solution I found.... I'm going to do a similar application to the KV-2....

the tube that usually holds the barrel cleaning gear... will be made of copper...and I'll use the helicopter wire solder it to it and hide it inside...on your tank it's easier... as you can just have the wire coiled and hanging somewhere... it works great. ....I am also going to hook an antenna to the correct position in the front of the KV... just trim it shorter and bend it backwards a little..partly for aesthetics but also for function... as I found running both the helicopter wire and an antenna boosts the range

By the way Palepainter.... I just noticed on your post with your first images... you hollowed out your exhausts as well... how did you hook them up? .... I tried...but found there wasn't enough clearance between the hull and the motor... did you change your gearbox and relocate your smoker?

I have not hooked the smoker up yet. It will be a week or so before I deal with that issue. I appreciate the thoughts and ideas on the antennae. That gives me some stuff to think about!!!
