With much patient explanation and graphic help from Jofaur86, I now have my otherwise RTR HengLong Challenger 2 (in Nato camouflage) running with HL TK7.0. I have upgraded quite a few Taigen/Torro tanks to the latest (now outdated and outdone) Taigen MFU, and those were a whole lot easier to do. But I have made modest progress in skills of soldering and changing various sorts of connectors. My toolbox grew yet a bit more, too. Thanks to Jofaur. I am now eager to learn more about the Challenger 2 (Like Paladin: "Have Books; Will Peruse") No pics of the Challenger because it is going to be a budget-minded unremarkable build.

1) Is there a source for an MG barrel correct for the Challenger 2 turret "Chain Gun" coaxial with the 120 mm cannon?

What is the small circled connector from this Readytosky 40A Bidirectional Brushed ESC 2-4S RC 40A x 2? It seems to be 1/3 of a servo connection? power only? signal only?

The single connector is just a Dupont connector with one pin. For an ESC, you only need one connector (3-pin) to provide power to the receiver. The full 3-pin connector would provide the 6V to the receiver so that you don't need a battery pack (battery elimination circuit - BEC). If this is a dual channel ESC, the yellow would be the signal cable for one channel for one motor and the other 3-pin would be the other channel for the other motor.

Amazon review of this ESC are horrible complaining mostly that the BEC (battery elimination circuit) cuts out a lot. Also says it's a frequently returned item.

Yes, Meter rat, that's the look of the "chain gun," which term "chain, I guess, refers to what we Yanks would call the "belt" of ammo.

Thanks for the tips, tankme: I will be on the lookout for troubles with the ESC. I though I had read all that stuff on Amazon, but I will check again.

I recently unearthed a Taigen/Torro KV-2 Beutepanzer I bought some years ago (a widower now, I still make a point of not keeping hobby receipts. >:< ). It has LED flash and recoil. It has a Taigen V3 installed, and I cannot recall (CRS disease) if I installed the electronics or these are original. Everything works--except the cannon firing: no sound, no flash, no recoil. I have had the turret open, checked writing connections, re-read the instructions (hey, I do have CRS, so maybe I forgot...). No luck.

Here's an interesting symptom: moving the left stick of the transmitter downward alternately elevates and depresses the cannon elevation. That's just as it should be. But moving the right stick of the transmitter upward also alternately elevates and depresses the cannon elevation. Hmm...

I don't want to spend more moola just now. (Sure, HengLong TK7.0 would give me better control, but for my minimal uses, the Taigen/Torro is good enough and in the case of the Russian engine, a bit better sound.)

Does anyone have any ideas of how to diagnose the problem?

Sometimes the micro switches on the Asiatam recoil units go bad. When that happens, nothing "triggers". I think we would need to see the recoil wiring as it has a bunch of wires going to it.
