New to R/C tanks

Having lots of fun (in this heatwave) reading the above posts...trying to figure out who's who/ follow the conversation. It's like when I watch the British shows on WRTI (PBS in some areas...I only have an antenna...no cable etc) and listen as carefully as I can, but only catch half of it. I have the subtitles on but they only help so much!

Update: I just received my first T-34 book, by Tomasz Janiszewski...it's a Polish book, published in 2020. It's pretty neat! Part 1 is about modelling a 1/48 scale T-34/76 with an interior, and the second part: a 1/35 scale T-34/85 used recently in Yemen.

Quick question: I'm trying to search in the Forums...looking for posts regarding the Heng Long Tiger 1 (my gf saw a couple Yt videos, and says she wants one...she likes the gray colour, and her birthday is coming up).

I've tried single words, combinations, and tried Advance Search:

"The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: tiger hl."

What am I doing wrong?

ST you need to know a bit of the history of 1/16 rc Tiger 1 Tanks, Tamiya produced the best of the best as a kit but they were/are too expensive for many,
Along came the largest toy maker in the world looking for a new market, Heng Long produced their Tiger 1 which was nowhere near as good as the Tamiya but it was CHEAP and it was rtr (Ready to Run) It was dreadfully flawed and many of them would breakdown not long after getting out of the Box,
A few people got together and talked about how to fix it and that was the birthplace of the Forum,
Heng Long were overwhelmed by the demand and Christmas was coming What to do? They bodged a tank body that they called a Panther It was built on a Tiger 1 hull and it sold like hot cakes,
We know now that it was nothing like the "Panther" but it meant that Heng Long was convinced to stay in the market and so along came Taigen the Cadillac to the Heng Long,
Not long after Taigen seperated from Heng Long and formed anther company Torro.
Heng Long stung by the cheapo stain finally got their act together and now the product is as good as any other so you now are left to make your mind up confident that the days of total tat is passed.

The latest Heng Long Tiger 1 is a really nice Tank with electronics as good as some aftermarket MFUs and do remember the 1/16 rc Tiger 1 has more aftermarket parts and upgrades available than any other Tank of the same scale.

Thanks Ecam...I'm about a quarter of the way through the Tiger 1 posts you have pointed me to. This is just the kind of info I'm looking for. I can see that the Taigen chassis is preferable over the HL. Torsion suspension: wow!

Thanks jarndice...fascinating and concise history of these manufacturers and their products. I had no idea that all of this has occurred over the past decade or so. Apparently I have it pretty easy with my recent (first and only so far) purchase of the HL T-34 7.0!! So much of the hard work has already been done by others (many of whom are members of this Forum).

I've watched the first video ("Unboxing") of the Tamiya Tiger 1 series (thanks Jofaur86). I grew up building Tamiya kits...they're super. When I was in my teens, I bought a Tamiya Porsche 956 R/C kit...took me a long time to save for it. I recall it was $129...the Tamiya R/C tank kits were several times that. It was around 1985. Minimum wage was $3 or less.
