Some years ago, I saw this photo of one of the ZTZ variants all spiffed up for display at the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution. It looks like a HengLong straight out of the box.

I know this post is from a while ago. But I made a start by doing the headlight mod. How much did you cut off the headlight, as I now have none? Or did yours not work after?

Meter rat: if the "you" is Mr tank a lot, then I am off the hook. However, my HengLong ZTZ is bone stock, even with the old TK 5.3. If I remember at all, I just painted the MG in a satin black (not flat, as I was imitating the fancy display in the photo) used the stars and coated it all with Testor's Dullcote.

Hi! I can’t remember! But they worked afterwards.

There is another way...they make 3mm and 5mm flat top LEDs. I use them a lot and then they look like headlights with no modification at all, but I tend to build a lot of 3D printed tanks so rather than buy domed LEDs I buy the flat top kind. If you go to my Kranvagn build, the headlights I used are flat top. I have cut down domed LEDs and made them flat, but that is a lot more work than just soldering in a flat top LED. I bought the LEDs in bulk so the cost is minimal.
