I've had these in my stash for years, they're yours if you want them, Herman. I think they're the Taigen 5:1 boxes? I bought them for my original SU-152 conversion but I remember them struggling with the KV's wide tracks. Shouldn't be a problem with the Panzer IV's narrow tracks!


Only 35 millimetres high, should be able to squeeze them under the transmission plate even if they're lifted up a little bit!

Yes indeed Mr Chef, this place is a sanctuary for understanding folk.

Ive been out of sorts recently...............lots of that crap we come here to avoid (called Life ) going on.
The worst behind me, its onwards to this stalled project.

Mucked around a bit on the recoil system.
The Clark unit was pretty easy to get sorted, just needed to tidy up the mounting points.
Mounted the servo to it & adapted the gear to suit the servo hub by gluing one of the supplied servo arms into the gear centre.
Super glue & done.

I lubricated the slide sections with pencil graphite to assist in smooth action.
The barrel seated all the way back into the inner slide section to be overhanging 60mm past the tip of the front glacis armour. The scale dimension of the overhang being divided by 16.
It looks right to the model & thats really all it needs to be.

You have compact, even elegant, mechanics for elevation and recoil, quite suitable for the JP IV. Because of the movement sideways to the bond, the cyanoacrylate glue may not hold well after some recoil servo action. (I would like to hear that it does hold up trouble free. Certainly if not, there are other means of bonding the pinion gear in place so it rides the rack.)

Thanks Doc, should be ok as there is no load or impact points on the rack system.
I used a Lego brick filled with hot glue to space the elevation servo up a bit to allow central travel of the arm in both planes, used a short section of round plastic to ride in the channel on the side of the unit to engage the servo arm motion which also seems very robust.
I tried levering the servo off the upper hull roof with a screwdriver and it never even squeaked !

In a bit of a holding pattern for now until Mr Raminators gearboxes turn up.

I'd also like to pay credit to the late Captain Midnight for paving the way on a low cost conversion of a JgPzIV/L48.
He and I did exchange a lot of bits for tank models, as well as other stuff we were both interested in back in the day.
Sadly he passed & that closed the book on his building skills & his sharing them here.
His 222 armoured car is a marvel.

I hope mine turns out nearly as good.
